I used the pulley before and loved it. Had it for over a year, and hella track days and 3 dyno pulls, motor never had any problems. Changed the oil every 3 months and never saw a spec of metal flakes. Everyone around here can vouche for that, the motor rev'd nice, the only down fall was the low idle. I had to sell it because I needed money for school, when I need money, parts get sold :( aight peace :chicken:

ps- for those that claim the bearings will go out sooner, please show pics of your motor that was destroyed by the pulley, if not, leave all this hearsay bullshit out of this thread...

pss- duane, did you use a new woodruff key??

I say use it, nothing bad will happen. Nobody on here will be able to post difinitive proof that it will harm your engine. I refuse to believe that two pieces of cast iron glued together with a rubber donut are keeping an inherently balanced inline 6 crank from tearing itself apart. If anything I would believe it's there to reduce accessory belt noise, and yes I have read the tech articles. If IJ can spin his crank at 120% of stock redline and Duane can make 3 times the stock power, then the bearings and crank can live without what little damping the factory pulley may offer. I hate going against the grain on this issue because I know some sheep from the herd is going to try to make me prove that the pulley won't cause problems, which obviously is impossible, so this will be my only post on the topic. I just want people reading this to know that there is at least one person who thinks that your engine won't fall apart without the stock pulley and it's not unanimously some kind of doomsday device. I will concede however that the people who are saying not to use them don't have anything to gain by telling you to use the stock pulley, so there must be some truth to the argument.

Been using one since I did my re-build...motor revs, boosts smooth as glass. Did a lot of reading on this before I decided to go with the pulley (including an e-mail discussion with Unorthadox) and came to the conclusion that adverse effect would be minimum. In all fairness, I also had the crank balanced to 7k rpm and the rest of the internals were balanced/blueprinted as well.

i agree with wingman's link.

"1) The vibration of the engine and its rigid components caused by the imbalance of the rotating and reciprocating parts. This is why we have counterweights on the crankshaft to offset the mass of the piston and rod as well as the reason for balancing the components in the engine." - almost all engines are balanced either internaly or externaly. chevy used either the crank pully, the crank. or the flywheel. i wonder why?

why do you think that dampend pully's have the elastic ring in them? " to absorbe vibration? "

i bought my supra off a collector here localy. he has used one once. after 15 supra's, youll notice that theres only 1 with a pully like that. conicidence?

not only that, but there's countless companies that sell crank dampeners...and I didn't find ONE besides U.R. that sells an undampened one. Plus it's basic physics, newton's third law at work for ya.

again, i have to agree with wingman.

if your gonig to spend the money, put it somewhere else. flywheel, driveshaft. egr block off plate. intake kit/system. just forget that pully.

Lol, Ian said wanker. Sweet. Yea, i'd advise against the pulley as well. Just get a new OEM one and you wont have to worry about it again for another 16 years. Sounds like a good deal to me.
