What distributor do I use?! What do I have? Pix within...

Trying to figure out which distributor is what in my garage and which one fits onto my motor. I'm so confused. Can anyone shed some light on where I stand.

Okay so this is the distributor that I have that fits in there but the plug is long and thin, not like the one on the harness that is short green and stubby.

I found this to be odd, any difference here people? The long one is the distributor with the black long plug on it.

Then my friend gave me this distributor and it has a plug on it that matches the harness, but no cap or anything?! He said I can just mount the extra cap I have onto this, but that not right.

Well, I know the distributor plug varies from pre89 models and models built from '89 and on. (I'm unaware of any other differences though, the extended shaft is new to me.)

The bottom one is a CPS for a 7M-GTE. The turbo model MKIII's do not use a distributor. While the 7M-GE's distributor also has a CPS in it a CPS alone will not work.

Wow, that cleared up some confusion. Okay. So maybe I can get the plug I need for that distributor and wire it with my green plug?

Cre ... ? is he workin with a gte harness ? Might be part of problem ... i have no idea on the n/a harness.. but that looks like a gte cps plug are they the same ?

Ok. Figured it out. It's a 87' Harness in the car and the distributor being used is a 89'. I found my old 89' N/A harness, the connector is on the harness that matches the 89' distributor, how do i take the 89' plug and splice it into a 87' distributor plug?

Interesting you should ask. I recently posted some pics and the wiring color pairs for another member. Do an advanced search, specify my name, this group, and "distributor colors". That should find it... it was pretty recent.

When you find it post the link or the info back up in this thread for the benefit of anyone else who may be looking for this in the future.

I understand but is your color code diagram the same on the other thread from a 87 harness to a 89 distributor?

Harness side colors are the same for both. The colors for the 89+ distributor are listed in the online TEWD. Sorry, didn't think about that.

So this is what you posted before, and the engine harness above is 89+ and the distributor is a 87'.

Mine is the other way around. How do I wire it?

Looks like the colors should be the same straight across.... what colors do you have? You may have to pull out a meter and test to see which is which at the ECU harness.

Yeah, colors are the same on either side, whether its the harness or the distributor plug. Just what is the combination. I will take a look at your link, bit confusing though. Thanks.

Okay, I looked at your link, it shows me the color wires for the 1989 Supra on the distributor side, but looking for a 1987 wiring diagram for the wiring harness side is all i need. Searching.....

So your saying the color combination stays the same regardless whether you use a 87' harness with 89' distributor or a 89' harness with a 87' distributor?

Bah... the colors of the wires are the SAME on the harness side regardless of whether the harness is pre89 or post89. Just wire it straight up.
