I miss my BHG oddly enough, that summer was probably the best summer I've had sadly it was just so nice and relaxing working on a motor til 3-4am all by yourself with music.

Its weird though because I have like no typical symptoms of a BHG. The engine runs fine. My temps are fine 80% of the time. The only issue is my temp gauge doesn't go over quarter even when I know the engine is at operating temp. I don't have milky oil (just gassy oil, I know I need a rebuild), and I don't have oily coolant. The only thing that'd point to a BHG is sweet smelling exhaust, missing coolant, and sometimes when its cold out it sound like water is rushing behind my dash when I start up and accelerate, that's usually when the temp gauge stays low too.

Sounds like the beginning stages eventually it will probably lead to the other main symptoms.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't miss my bhg, but I love working on the car in the garage with music. I'd be fine taking a vacation at home working on the Supra. Provided there's no deadline making me anxious its the most satisfying activity I've found.

Call me crazy but I probably enjoy wrenching as much as actually driving.

I am at the point where I am looking for something to wrench on the car often I find myself sitting at my computer thinking about just removing stuff for the fun of it then putting it back on lol. I've made my 7M too reliable now hahaha.

drove mine around with a leaking hg for almost a year if not a year just kept topping off the coolant but it was making the white pancake smoke out the exhaust on a hot start up if it sat for like 15-30 minutes

till a point where my oil was being fouled up really fast but not milkshake style it was just turning to the consistency of jelly and dark in only about 2 or 3 weeks so it was just time

think the temp only went up but not fully once but I think a initial overheat is what started everything but im not sure

Yeah those are the symptoms mine had. The HG just let loose one day after about 3 months of those symptoms.

I recently started a new job. So once i get bills and shit paid off I'm going to start saving up for a complete rebuild or just a new engine. Not decided yet. Just has to last me as my daily driver for 2 or 3 more months

Yeah more like a $300 pile. Sadly I could have got most of these from work. Guess I'm just to honest.

its like I always say when finding company monies; "I'd rather have a job than a free lunch"

Well I recharged my A/C a week or two ago at my shop and it seems to have gotten quite less cold in the time thats passed. So either the 95+ degree, 100%+ humid weather has to do with that or I have a leak somewhere...

odds are you have a leak, is it cold at night? If it's not blowing as cold as it used to at night then yea check for leaks.

Even though it has rained every day for 3+ weeks, I managed to buff out and wax the paint on the car. Kinda silly I guess since it's going into the body shop in a few days, but I wanted to see how nice the original paint would get. The whole car isn't getting re-painted, just having the body work areas blended in. It came out pretty nice!

Wow, grsupra87, your car looks amazing. Every now and then I look through the 1989 Supra brochure and the pic of the special white package always stands out.

So great to know that there are some of them out on the road and still looking good!

---

Although this was a couple weeks ago, I finally did a proper coolant flush on my 89 Turbo.

I don't think the previous owner ever had this done, and I know he had two BHGs.

After reading posts from all over the Internet I used the BG Products flush fluid. It was a pain to get a hold of, but I was happy with the results.

Flush goes from right to left, with the leftmost bottle being fresh distilled water.

I was starting to worry the water would never get clear!

Thanks for the kind words,, but the car has some rough spots too...hence the bodyshop appt. Thanks for the info on the coolant flush. The previuos owner of my car did a lot of maint to it, but I don't think a coolant flush was one of the things he did. So I will!

Haha, nice Grandavi. I have honestly considering going that route as well, but I just don't want to give up on my engine yet. Got every cooling system hose and several of the pipes and unions ordered from Champion Toyota. Going to have an interesting post for this thread the day all that stuff arrives!

Looking forward to post body shop pics grsupra87!

As for the flush, my cooling system looked bad when I got the car. I had it "flushed" by my old mechanic, which I am sure just meant drain and refill. Granted, the coolant looked ok afterwards, but I never should have waited so long to clean the expansion tank. Looked like clay had settled in there... I would have taken a picture, but it might have been too much horror!
