What a freakin night

wow last night sucked major balls... i was on my way home at about 10 30 on the i95 and i looked down and saw that i was runnin kinda hot so i babied her and then she ran hotter and hotter so i shut her down and coasted for a mile or so and then started her back up and it seemed to get better. my brother had his hand out the passenger window and said"is it raining" no.. it wasent raining.. it was coolent... lol then i hear POP and smoke poures out from under the hood... the vacume line connecter on the thermstat housing literaley shot out of the housing and sprayed coolent all over the place... and yes it was tightened down... so i had my frend tow me home and havent touched the car since... luckeley it only over heated for less than a min. before i shut her down... so i dont think i did any damage internaley... and what sucks even worse is that i just got her running really good... i guess its allways something...

If it got hot enough to blow the BVSV apart then it got more than hot enough to do a lot of damage (hopefully when you say vacuum, you're referring to something else)... I really do hope that everything's fine.

Maybe the BVSV was just erroded internally, and finally let go?

no its actually fine but i dont think were talkin about the same part.. i pulled this pic off google and circled the part im talkin about

i put everything back togeather and it all seems to work fine now.. the threads werent even messed up.. i have no clue how though.. i guess it just wasent tight enuf.. i put thread locker on all the sensors that are in the therm. housing.. i guess we will see how it is tomorow....

lol yeah, thats the BVSV.. I have no idea why it would come out other than your thermostat sticking, and it building so much pressure that it'd just pop out...




check your oil for coolant... better safe than sorry. hahah

ya i checked all that .. lol ive had a bhg before... and im not running a thermistat (i live in fl not really concerned...) and what exactley dose the BVSV do? mine isnt hooked up because the nipples on it broke off...

I'm pretty sure its a heat controlled valve for the vacuum system, but I duuno what its purpose is...

well i looked into the bottom of it and i cant see any valve or anything.. just solid metal .. so i figured it was just some kind of cupler for the vac lines...

Yes, it probably erroded internally, and finally sprung a leak.

ya... it only took me like 10 min. to tighteneverything back on and fill it back up with coolent.. now i just need to get that new part..

put a t-stat in your car, it will cause you to overheat, not heat up fast enough, run rich, ect ect ect...

I'm in Florida, and want to add - put a thermostat in your car.

The BVSV allows charcoal canister vapors to flow under vacuum once the car has heated up.

It shows it clear as day in the TSRM

Yes

You need to give the coolant time to absorb the heat from the engine and also time to cool in the radiator. It's there for a reason. Although it may work without one, it is definitely a part you want in your engine..

What happens is you delay the coolant getting to ops temp (176-210)...this extends the time the ECU stays in warm-up enrichment. You want to run a thermostat...180 deg is fine for hot climates; for most the stock 190 is appropriate.
