Yeah, as I've pointed out before when diag mode is entered the TCCS sets idle speed and disables ESA. Those things can't occur if IDL is open. It's why timing should not be attempted without first verifying a TPS code 51 is *not* present with the throttle closed.
For those who remember it's no different than the procedure used on carbed engines with vacuum advance where idle speed had to be set and advance defeated. The reasons behind this haven't changed. Now the TCCS simply does it for you.
at the time i knew about the code 51 and tried every way to get the TPS to respond properly. Any meter reading of the IDL - E2 and VC - E2 was perfectly fine, but could not get good readings for any VTA. with the new TB and TPS (also used a new TPS connector from the harness that came with my motor) I did not adjust the TPS as per TSRM because its a pain in the ass detecting deflection on a digital meter. I just measured the VTA at fully closed throttle and the IDL at whatever mm my thickness gauge gives between 0.4-0.5mm. For the first time I've had no codes and its a joyous occasion.
good luck to you max, i havent had to rewire the knock sensor but my guess is that its a sealed-insulated wire according to the TCCS wiring diagram is nearly identical to the n/a o2 sensor wire.
