oo, memories. I had that thing too. I didnt like it too much. The rubber bands hurt the most. But the spacers they put in my teeth to fit that gay pallet expander hurt a lot also.

Getting braces is much better than going through life with messed up looking teeth. You'll be glad you're doing this later on.

Depends on how messed up they are I guess...and waht you call messed up
Mines aren't messed up so much I guess, on the top, I have 2 teeth a little up front and on the bottom, two teeth again are out, and because of that they've pushed 2 teeth back. Still, the right and left half look the same, so no problem here for me, like a little vampire :) Doc said, if I brush teeth etc, everything will be ok, so I didn't go through that pain and that moneygiving :)

Good for you. You know, I never smiled until I got braces. I hated my smile. Most kids hate the idea of braces, and hate the idea of smiling with them because it shows that they have them. For some reason, ironically, braces brought the smile out in me more often. They require maintenance and upkeep, but nothing too bad.

The movement periods, the first week after installation of a new set of stretching bands/chains, is the most painful, but it's a dull pain, not a sharp one. You will be irritated and crabby, at worst, but it's nothing to cry about.

I cannot stress enough that you wear your retainer when treatment is over. Trust me on this. I didn't have time to maintain my retainer and my bottom retainer [cemented] broke while I was in basic training. My teeth drifted just enough that I couldn't use my retainer again, and now my teeth are almost back to where they were before I was treated. It's money down the drain, and a real slap in the face.

Don't worry about getting braces. I had them when I was in 6th through 7th grade and I just recently got them again. My teeth lined up because my bottom jaw grew differently than my top, so my front teeth lined up and I would grind them in my sleep. So they took out one of my front bottom teeth and are moving my teeth so they do not line up and more in the front. It is weird to be 22 almost 23 with braces, but I am just glad that they are finally going to be fixed. At times it is weird esp. when I meet new girls, but if a girl doesn't like me because I have braces, then she can go burn in a fire. Don't worry about it because before you know it you will have a perfect smile.

The rubber bands are the WORST. I couldn't wear them for very long, wearing them drove me insane, and I couldn't concentrate on anything.

And no, I haven't been wearing my retainer, but my orthodontist said she was surprised at how they hadn't drifted very much at all. :D

Shiet. Eh, atleast I'll drink more than eat, so I'll probably lose some weight. Anyone have any bad experiences with braces?
Yeah I had them on for 3 and half years:cry:

Meh they never cut my cheeks I never wore wax didn't get an ulcers all was good.

Never hurt except for like an hour after they did a big tighten of the wires.

Sreiously having braces is one of the best things I've done, good teeth do a lot imo to help build a professional appearance. The bands didn't annoy me much, haven't worn my retainer for a couple months, I just throw it in a couple weeks before my 6 monthly checkups now and all is good :p

take a before pic of ur teeth before they put them on. post it, then when they take them off take a pic
I had teeth that were sideways:aigo: , all perfect now. And I don't need wisdom teeth removed because they all lined up perfectly when they came through.

One dentist wanted to drill a hole in one of my teeth that was literally at a 90 degree angle to the rest and put a chain in it to pull it down and around.

My mum politely told him to fuck off, I got braces and they fixed that tooth along with the rest of them. They are annoying for a while but after a month or so you get used to them, and the end result is well worth it.

Wear your reatiner for atleast the first 6 months though, no point wasting all tht effort to have them move back again:3d_frown:

Heh i wore my rubber bands maybe like for 2 hours total... the orthodontist said good job and told me to wear just braces for one more month and then they got taken off..
Wear your retainers every night for the first few months after you get them off... then go to like every other night or so. If you go to long it hurts as bad as getting your braces tightened when you try to put them back in.

Cold things = bad, stuff like 2 minute noodles, spagetthi and custard or yogurt are good.

Or be a man and chow down on a fat juicy steak.:biglaugh:

Had braces from the age of 13-16
I wished I had them earlier cuz the older you get the rougher it is just because of peers etc. And yes the rubber bands sucked, I never wore them but I regret that now because I have a slight overbite that I really wish I corrected.

Have fun with scratched bleeding gums, lips and tongue.....its fun :nono:

My upper teeth are fine, I have a little overcrowding on the bottom and a little overbite but I don't go around flashing my bottom teeth and you can't see the overbite at all, ever. I'm lucky
