So umm I think mines busted because only one tire spins, an I right or wrong?

Let me explain, so today after the blizzard of colorado, I tried to move my car. About 10 minutes of trying and all of the neighbors coming out to check the commotion:nono: my sister inform me that only one wheel was spinning. I thought once the tire slip the differential locks up so both wheels go?

No, it's a limited slip, not a locker.

In a situation where you have nearly zero traction on one wheel, and traction on the other (ice would be a good example, or one wheel off the ground), you're going to do nothing but ruin the diff.

Add in years and thousands of miles of wear...

Where can we find a Torsen diff for the MKIII?

I'm still running the stock open diff in my '86.5, and could use a diff that gets me better traction for our snowy northern Michigan roads.

If you can find one, it would be out of a JZA70. The Torsen diff is geared 4.11 iirc...

Mario, I just bought a rebuild kit from Jeff @ Jawsgear and will be rebuilding mine soon. I'll let you know how hard it is. The kit was one hundred and fourty dollars I think.

4.11 gearing? I'm not interested.

Since swapping my GE for the GTE, one of the things I planned on doing was dumping my 4.3 open diff for a 3.73 LSD. Aside from running lower RPMs at highway speed, I was hoping I'd get an increase in traction during our slippery winter months.

Wow, that's not bad at all. Yea, yell at me once you have rebuilt yours. I hope it's not to hard and I can do it myself.

You can swap the Torsen centre into a 3.7 diff as long as you swap the stub axles in as well as they're different.

The Torsen makes a HUGE difference to turn in when pushing hard as they don't understeer as much (assuming a well functioning tight LSD)

They're also MUCH safer in slippery conditions as the car won't slide down the road camber under power like an LSD, first time I hammered mine hard with a torsen I thought the clutch was slipping as the car stayed dead straight on the road (had a friend stick his head out the window and watch the rears smoke)

T1's WON'T take abuse from hard launches though but if you don't shock them they're fine.

I liked the concept so much that when I build my IRS 9" I fitted a TruTrac (Detroit's version of a Torsen)

Diff rebuilding isn't Rocket Surgery BUT you do need some specialised measuring equipment to get it right.

^^^Sounds exactly what I'm looking for, as long as I can put the center in a 3.73 diff.

Anyone have any clue where I can look for a Torsen diff for our Supra? Sounds like finding one will be a tad difficult.

I'm afraid to even ask what the price would be. (Or shipping from the down under for that matter).... ;)

I'm NOT going to be launching my car. (I'm still rocking my auto tranny, and plan on keeping it an auto).

I'm just looking for something that will aid with traction in snow and lower my RPMs at the same time. My 4.3 open diff is far from ideal for what I want.
