I was doing something stupid.... I won't say what because I don't have a good enough flame suit.

It involved high rpm, high boost under an enormous load(high mph for over 2 minutes)

I look up, egt's are through the roof, AFR is correct though. So, I let out. When I let out, the car goes rich for a moment, EGT's spike even higher, and I see flames under the hood. I start to slow down, and the EGT gets higher, and the flames get bigger. Sooo... I floor it, and the flames go out, EGT's go down slightly.

Well, I couldn't exactly stop immediatly in the predicament that I was in, so I maintain hauling ass. I try stay off boost until I get to my buddies house about a mile away, since I know he has a fire extingisher at home. So I Pull up in the driveway, and pop the hood. I then jump out immediatly with the car still running to keep from destroying my turbo. The turbo is glowing red, so is the downpipe, but the fire is out. The car runs for about 3 or 4 minutes before I turn it off, and cools off.

Looks like the only real damage is a burn boost controller to top of wastegate line...so no real biggie. I don't know if it overboosted or not and it was on pump gas. So I'll be doing a comp test tomorrow to see if everything is ok, and replacing the line. I'm going to route it a little differently this time I think.

Tsk Tsk Tsk, running from the cops? Lol.

What was the predicament, hmmmm?

:icon_conf maybe....

Anyhow, I would post pics, but its just a rubber vac line that was a hair too close to the turbo for that much heat... Walk outside and set a piece of vac line on fire... thats what it looked like. But from my point of view while it was happening, it looked like a big F&^king fire.....lol

I'm pretty sure I didn't hurt anything.

Disclaimer: Yes, running from the cops is a stupid thing to do, and I do not make habbit of it in any way shape or form. As a matter of fact, I am usually very well behaved on the road with other cars. This one time, I didn't feel like getting a ticket for some bullshit, and the road was wide open. I would have stopped, based on the fact that I was doing NOTHING wrong, but.... My inspection sticker was expired, and there was a nitrous bottle hooked up on top of the rear seat delete(illegal), and the cop seemed to have it out for me, since I was cruising @ 50 and he just slammed on brakes and threw the lights on.

No, he did not come anywhere near close to catching me.

The exhaust housing was glowing red. Where I ran from him at was right on a long long stretch of road. There are two flat long runs on top of a hill, a long downhill, then a flat at the bottom of the downhill. It then goes back up a hill, back onto another mile long straight.
First straight, 1/2 mile: Second straight(in valley) once at the bottom of the hill :1 mile
3rd straight, at top of valley on other side: 1 mile.

I took off about halfway through the half mile. He was just going down the hill when I had topped the other side. I was at the end of the other straight when before he got halway through the valley. I estimate my speed through the wide open straightaway to be very damn fast.(I didn't realize I was going that fast). The 89+ speedo needle was about in the middle of the warning light on the right side of the cluster. 3.73 gear, 26" tall tire, 5th gear 6300RPM...

I dunno. I can tell you this, I will NEVER go that fast in a car again!!!!

Yeah, I slowed down when I realized how fast I was going. I immediatly turned down a side road and went to my buddies house. after I turned off, I did about 75-80....lol Just enough so I would be at my friends house already if the cop figured out where I turned.

Keep in mind, this was WAY out of town, in the country... my buddies house is about 1/2 mile off the side road I took, in the woods. So after that, no worries.

Ya, I'm not saying you really did anything wrong. If you're out in the sticks with no one in sight, no one else is really in danger so i say speed on.

Glad you're ok, and I hope the car didn't suffer anything more than a bad hose.

Oh, and what speed rating are your tires? Might be something to keep in mind when going flat out ;)

Except for the fact that when the officer radios it in and they send four or five other cars out to circle like sharks they'll spot you like bait.

Might want to stay the night at your friend's house... with the car in his garage.

obviously your flame suit is pretty good... it got you out of the fire
beware of trying to outrun the radio... another not good idea
