On that motor there are two freeze plug things and I have only seen these on the JDM motors, I have a JDM black next to me in the garage and I have never seen USDM with those, it's on the side with the knock sensors.

This is from what I have seen. That looks to be a JDM 7m-gte if you need pics of my block I can get some like Wednesday Camera is getting fixed now.

Yeah okay its definately an early block then, I guess it is a GTE then given everything else then.

And I get the block ribs, just like in 87 the 4A series got a 7 rib and beefier block versus the 84-86 5 rib 4a.

interesting how it doesnt have squirters though, I would have thought it to be standard.

Mine has squiters, and it is a early block. It does not have reinforced mains or anything.

Need any more info let me know, I can run in the garage and look at it.

Some really early 87's had no squirters Steve.

I was going to say I heard this, but we know what happens when you guess in a tech section. Like I said mine looks exactly like this one. That is a JDM 7M-GTE it doesn't have any signs of being GE. Not have the squiters may hinder peoples opinion.

Early GTE block without squirters...

The crank doesn't look that bad to be honest, the one in my garage is FAR worse (rodknock engine). I'm betting hydrolock as well...

soo many jdm blocks are being pictured as the original non squirter, non ribbed design. It will be nice when the "newer" blocks start making it to our shores for rebuilds...

Group A Race engines were built on Heavy Non Squirter NA blocks Steve.

As noted, the crank doesn't look bad, GE and GTE rods are identical, and this is a GTE block, just an early one.

See above - what you have is IMO, a damned good foundation for building a kick ass modded 7M-GTE.
