Might be a repost but.. I just did the first oil change with my new supra and that was a weird ass experience. Is it just me , or is the oil filter in the worst possible place? Weirdest oil change ive ever done. Maybe it was my technique, but either way toyota shouldda planned a little better. The filter is lodged between a rock and a hard place (almost literaly), just seeing if anyone else has the same opinion?

hah, I had the perfect angle...had the filter wrench on, it had the vulcan death grip on the filter...just no freaking place to turn it. That's after I learned yoga to be able to manuever my arm in there. Filter relocation FTW.

That's funny - I just had a bad filter change experience as well, and posted it in the General Discussion section. It can be a pain!!!

The NA is easy as hell,
Spark plugs are annoying too. glad you dont have to change those every 3k miles.

Once you get used to the filter placement I don't think its that bad. I always get oil all over myself when I take the filter off though. Oh well, rather a little oil on me than old oil in the Supra.

You guys are doing it wrong. :icon_bigg

Look for a cup shaped filter wrench that fits on the end of the filter and grabs the dimple/notches. Once you find the right type of wrench, look for one that has a square in the center to accept a 3/8 rachet. If you like the Fram grip filters or use a filter without notches, find a filter wrench with three fingers that close against the filter. It's a bit harder to use but much easier than brute force.

Oilter wrench -> swivel -> 12" extension -> rachet

With the extension against the X-member, it's *almost* a straight shot from underneath the car. I actually use a wobbly ball-end extension instead of a full swivel.

you guys are just a bunch of pussies. I do oil changes on 115 degree concrete driveways with a hot motor and i just reach my hand up there w/out the car being jacked up btw and take it off.

slide the pan under the plug (car still not jacked up) and undo it. bingo bango done :)

i just took off the accordian hose and reached in and grabbed that sucker. it was easy. now that i relocated my filter to near the passenger tow hook, it's even EASIER. :)

i'm just waitin for my filter to hit a speed bump... but it's like a $10 piece, and if i ever scrape, i'll get out n check, so it doesn't bother me that much, cuz i bet it gets cooled really well down there
