Hardtop here also, and you know I actually bought this car because it was heavey, (safe in T bones, rear ends, and head ons), rear wheel drive, and an inline twin overhead cam 6, so if you think it isn't fast enough in stock trim, make more horepower, I would not cheapen the awesome luxury and safety the car has built it. Our cars handle awesome with sway bars alone, let alone strap on some sticky fat tires. Thats just my opinion though.

I guess part of the reason for getting lighter would be that losing weight without replacing parts is cheaper than paying to up horse power. I know that speed costs. I had heard somewhere during my reading of a hotrod mag or maybe even on here that 100 pounds=one tenth off the 1/4 mile. Is that a true statement?

Weight is super helpful but if you're gonna remove the main luxuries of your car it isn't worth it IMO. Removing backseats/spare tire is understandable (spare tires aren't a luxury, and the backseats don't really help much) but remember that even if you DO remove them, your weight in the rear won't be much which means bad traction.

Yeah.... Like ^^he^^ said, and as I was going to say:

Our cars ARE boats, Targa or not.

Cutting down the weight of our cars is a must...but make sure you do it in the right areas.

Example: If you are going to pull out ALL of your rear interior, convert your battery to the back so you can still have some weight on your back tires.

Don't forget how heavy wheels can be (depending on what you have).
A lot of people forget about wheels.

And some kids wonder why their 4200lb Supra w/ (4) 15"s and (4) Amps w/ 19" Chrome wheels is barely breaking into the 16's down the track. :nono:'

*edit*
And just to back it up again, yes, 100lbs, theoretically speaking, should brush off 1/10th of your quarter mile time given identical circumstances.

c'mon we have luxury tourers not some cheap-ass civic's, dont rip out cars off. The only good weight reduction is carbon fiber hood and trunk. Thats it, everything more is just rice.

your lieing to your self!!!

it would be a terrible day in vancouver! if i gutted my car, i would be insane.

my a/c doesn't even work and i cant part with it!. i know i'll fix it sooner or later. just bound to time and money.. and well i haven't gotten to that class yet either, figured id save a project for me till then..

the best solution for the supra is not to lose weight, but transfer weight from her mouth to her ass. and get some traction.. i think the weight ratio was 53/47 but im not sure..

Rice? You've got to be kidding me.

A Carbon fiber HATCH, (We don't have "trunks") would be passed off as more of a "tuner" mod than gutting your interior.

And even at that, a majority of people that own Supra's don't use their backseats! So why in the $!%@ would I care what my car BEHIND me looks like. Sitting in the front two seats, all interior is there. Luxury feel is all there.

If you use your Supra strictly as a daily driver and really aren't into serious racing, then removing your interior is pointless.

That is not the case with everyone.

And just for the record, I removed my interior because, 1 - My seats (which are leather) in the rear got all hard, started cracking, looks like crap. I'm not going to spend the money to reupholster that. 2 - I've laid down rhinoliner in the rear of my car to prevent rust through the cab...because MKIII's have a tendency to rust in these areas.

I want to improve the overall perfomance of the car. It is my daily driver and I have to haul my little girl around on occasion so I have to keep the back seat. The a/c can go b/c I have two windows that work. I have never had a vehicle that had working a/c, why start now(btw the compressor is burnt up).

Hell, I not only removed my rear interior, I'm smoothing out all the sheetmetal in the rear and it's getting painted along with the car. The sole intention being to look good without interior. I guess we'll see how it goes :p

^^That was going to be my other point, but I felt like I said my bitching for the day. :D

It might be a required taste for liking the looks of a gutted interior.
For me, I think it's freakin' tits....as long as it's not all rusted lol.

Kurt - It'll turn out nice! :)

I've seen pics of a few guys who, through some hard work, have relocated all of thier electronics and sensors and shit that aren't directly connected/bolted onto the engine out of the engine bay. That would help in better distributing the wieght, not to mention making the engine bay look like tits ;). I wouldn't get a carbon fiber/fiberglass hatch even if there was one made for the supra and I had the $$$ to buy it ;). Carbon fiber hood... That's different. Keep as much weight on the back tires as possible.

I don't want anything crazy(titanium bolts), just things that work at cutting weight without spending a ton of cash. If I wanted to do anything as crazy as some of the suggestions I would spend that on a built motor.

We've already told you what you could do. You either pay money or sacrifice luxuries.
