Watery Sound

I'm sure this has been discussed over and over but I did not feel like trying search for an answer since my mangina is aching tonight. When I accelerate or rev the engine I hear water behind the dash. I know it's going through the heater but how do I remedy this sound? I did read something on "burping"...explain. I suspect I may be low on coolant but radiator is full even when thermostat is open. Suggestions?

burp the car by raising the front end real high. This is because the heater matrix is the highest point of the system. so as you have the car raised up this then means that the filler on the rad becomes the highest point. Run the engine whilst slowly poring in coolant and squeeze the top rad hose till there are no bubles vissible in the filler neck.

Oh and get a compression check done as water noises can indicate a possible bhg

Just swapped an engine so from what you say about the heater matrix I'm sure there's still some air in it. Was planning on doing a compression check since it's a used engine. What's normal psi for bone stock 7mge's?

i have no idea as ive never done a comp check on one before. im sure someone will know.

yeah therell be air locks etc. You may find this a good time to replace the thermostat with a new one (toyota only please)

I had them replace that before putting the engine in along with the front and rear seals and timing belt. I wanted a 160 degree thermo but could only get a 180 degree. Is that what most of you are running?

im runnin what ever the stock thermo is as far as i know. well yer burping the engine should be enough. you need to have the front of the car pretty high up though and from what ive been told it takes a fair while maybe up to an hour?

There's air in the cooling system. Check the radiator cap and have a pressure test done on the cooling system to see if there are any leaks allowing air into the system.

Don't use a 160 deg thermostat...the ECU uses coolant temperature to switch from cold to warm temp ops. A 160 deg thermostat will not make the motor run cooler, it will open earlier and simply delay the coolant from warming up to operating temp. This in turn delays the switch by the ECU and make the engine run rich. A 180 deg is ok, but is really only necessary for very hot climates where you want the cooling system to get ahead by allowing flow into the radiator a touch earlier. The stock thermostat is 190 deg.

happened to me to, it lead to bhg =\ check out color of coolant and milky engine cap, and steam engine exhaust.

I've been running a 170 with now problems. I would say take the info at hand and make a decision on it your self. I have never heard of a 160 for the MKIII supra's though

You should use a 190 degree thermostat, 180 at the lowest. No questions, just do it! ;)

Guys, the cooling system on our cars is very fragile. Do not try doing something different to the car's cooling unless it's be tested and proven to work and make the car operate correctly.

kinda a greens brown color. depending on how badly blown the hg is, ya may even notice some oil floating in the coolant. or get a block test kit from napa and check it that way. not 100% accurate, but will start pointing you towards looking for a bhg.

What would the color of the coolant be if it were a BHG? I'm probably going to change the HG anyway so I won't have to worry about it. No milky engine cap.

from experiance, dirty greenish brown. there is alot of gunk in the coolant box. your tail pipe looks like a steam engine at 12 in the afternoon (sunny day). compression sucks ass, when you step on the gas pedal the car feels like its going 10 miles per hour. thats just from experiance, also you might want to check the spark plugs for oil, valve cover leakage :nono: :yelrotflm
