Well I have noticed a waterfall sound at around 2krpms, I have narrowed it down to 5 possibilities, but again I'm not as sharp when it comes to accuracy. Can someone please confirm how accurate these are?

Hopefully it will be easier on the people who search

Keep in mind I'm 15 and don't know as much as everyone else. But here's my effort.

---------------

Fixing the waterfall sound

---------------

1. Hearing a waterfall sound coming from somewhere around the dash

INFO : When you hear a waterfall sound coming from your dash, it can mean many things, but this is more than likely water rushing into your heater core

A : This is a common symptom of a blown head gasket. Because this is the biggest task to replace for the home mechanic under minor experience, make sure that the BHG is the last possible cause before replacing.

B : Radiator cap, this is easy to replace, locate, and cheap to purchase. Try this first

C : Leak in the coolant system, make sure that most major hoses are in good condition, meaning it isn't expanded, cracked, or have a pinpoint hole in them. When trackingthe leak, you can NEVER tell where the leak is by the location of the puddle, due to the fact the coolant can fall, land on a hose, and follow the hose untill hitting the ground and thus, creating a puddle.

To check, get the car warm. The reason of getting the car warm is to create pressure in the coolant system. Locate most coolant hoses and squeese them with your fingers (Please wear safety glasses, as coolant can shoot in your eyes). If coolant shoots out of a pinpoint hole replace the hose once the system has cooled.

Also check your gaskets, such as your thermostat gasket and feel with your dry fingers if you can spot a leak

D : Your thermostat might be bad, replace this after checking hoses and replace the radiator cap

E : Flush the radator, and bleed the coolant system

Hearing water rush into the heater core means your coolant system is low on water. The really big questions is, why is it low on water? 2 tools that are invaluable to answering this question are a combustion gas leak detector kit and a cooling system pressure tester. The combustion gas tester lets you know if you combustion gases in your cooling system or not. There shouldnt be any. If there are combustion gases present it means there is a BHG, cracked head or cracked block. The pressure tester will allow you to pressurize the system and visually check for leaks.

Burp the system first, easy to do and keep an eye on the coolant level, check for leaks, then if you don't find were the coolant is going then do the other things mentioned, combustion test and cooling pressure check. That's what I do is the simple checks first but I'm cheap.

One of the most experienced and trusted mechanics I've ever known, said that no cooling system needs "burping".

If there's air in the system, it's most likely getting there from an inside source, i.e;...

::bhg::

I was in denial of this truth for a long time!:aigo:

The only time I disagree with this is when the car is filled with the rear end up. That will usually create some problems for certain cars. Although there are other certain vehicles which require a particular filling sequence, the 7M MKIII isnt one of them.

If you are not having to add coolant and arent overheating, I would suggest you have a partially clogged heater core or a collapsing heater core hose. You shoould never hear coolant entering you heater on a properly filled and working cooling system.

Burping Tool

If you are having trouble getting the air out, this might help. I use it on most vehicles, as it prevents spills. It does help get rid of any air that may be trapped in the system as well.

^^ You mean there is another way of filling a car? :D
Actually that is the best radiator filler ever. I dont know how we ever got along without it.

eliminate the faulty radiator cap and bad thermostat, and maybe the hoses too, i have a brand new radiator cap and thermostat and it still has the waterfall sound, i dont think air will come in through the hoses as the system is pressurized, so it should escape rather than enter, i suggest testing for co2 gasses in the radiator with the kit and if it indicates co2 in you cooling system you have a bhg, if not burp it by raising the front as high as possible or park on a steep hill and keep filling the system until all the air has escaped

i put my car on my driveway which is very steep, and on ramps. The clutch could barely pull the car onto the ramps it was so steep. I ran the funnel like that with the heater open for about 30 mins, little air came out and i still get the waterfall noise:(

I wonder if the vsv for the heater not opening fully could cause this symptom? I have no way to test it, as mine broke, and I had to remove it.

I know my coolant system is fine, the waterfall sound ONLY happens when it's not on 85 degrees on the CC...

it's like when the valve closes a bit it causes cavitation...
