Yes you can. That`s where mine is mounted.
86.5/early 87 had no acc. condenser fan in front of the condenser, therefore no sensor in the housing.

not sure what you mean by that, im a bit slow right now. everything cooling/AC wise is stock. is there anywhere i can drill and tap to get an accurate reading before the thermostat?
what im trying to do is keep the stock gauge working and run an aftermarket gauge, too.
There's a blank spot right above the ECU temp sensor that I drilled and tapped 1/8 NPT and installed my Autometer water temp sender. Works like a champ!

Understood. I was just trying to clarify what he had in his pic, and why it was different as well as confirm that "yes", what he was asking could be done.:icon_bigg
If you get rid of your charcoal canister then you won't need the BVSV on the thermostat housing. And the OEM BVSV spot is the perfect place to install the Autometer water temp. sender. I have mine installed there. Sorry no pics.
