Resident newbie stupid question 3.
If a water pump goes bad, shouldn't the water be coming out of the little hole on top of it"

I apologize if this is stupid, but from what I remember about the old chevy / 60's cars, this was how you knew. I don't see any water coming from there, but it's coming from somewhere, and I don't want to take it back to the f-ing mechanic and have hime tell me the water pump is bad if it isn't...

thanks

Normally that hole will let you know but in rare occurences the gasket in between the water pump and lower timing back plate could be leaking. If those check out alright check the numerous number of coolant hoses located on the front of the engine.

the gasket between the WP and block can leak.

Thats kind of what it looks like. Could that be a result of the BHG repairs done by my favorite f-mech?

how long has it ran since you got it back from him? Did he machine the block and the time plate on the front on the motor together? Could be the little 90 hose behind the thermostat housing and above the PS pump.

I thought mine was leaking too, till I replaced the pump and gasket.
then I found out it was the line that goes to the WP, behind the timing plate, underneath the exhaust manifold, next to the 90 degree hose.
