Water Pump Installation

Hey fellas,
I am installing a new toyota water pump, just wondering if it would be a good idea to apply a small amount of FIPG to the supplied gasket or not?

When I worked at Toyota, I never saw a water pump gasket. We used Toyota FIPG only, and it never leaked. You should use Toyota FIPG only, or the gasket only. You can apply a very thin amount around it to hold it in place when you bolt on the pump.

Thanks for the tip.
A buddy of mine currently works at Toyota, he said they don't use gaskets either.
Would I apply FIPG to the pump or the mounting place?

Ive always just used the gasket. The water pump always only came with a gasket from the factory.

I used the Toyota gasket on mine...

Last factory gasket I bought was coated in sealer so just bolted straight on once the surfaces were cleaned spotlessly with paint thinner, no leaks ever.

Ditto.

FIPG isn't called for in this application. Also, make sure you follow the torque specs as there are bolts and studs and they have different torque specs in the TSRM.

I coated my gasket with a copper spray.
Never had an issue with it.
