iirc it takes a 36mm socket to get it off. check at harbor freight and pick up one of their deep impact socket sets to remove it (i had a bitch of a time finding one to fit)

when taking it off the angle you hold your breaker bar will have everything to do with you snaping it off or not. just make sure your nice and square on the bolt. they snap easy because they are sorta far back in the engine bay so if your weight shifts wrong it WILL snap. i have taken 3 off in one day. even though it was off the car you HAVE to be steady on not shift you weight down or up. i thought i would save you the headache of trying to save the head after you snap one off. of course use plenty of PB or whatever you have before hand. just hope nobody ran plain water in your motor before and it should come off like a charm.

Patience, prayer and persistence.

Work it loose slowly, a little at a time using PB

Pray that it doesn't snap off

Try the heat and candle wax trick.

Use the right size socket and breaker bar

good luck with that one. ive broke 3 in my lifetime. one was the original, and the other 2 were new (within 2 years). order a new one from champion toyota just in case... its not expensive. last thing you want is to break it and have to wait for a new one to come.

Steel in aluminum = SIEZE

You'll be lucky if it doesn't snap, it's a hollow bolt with holes in the side as well so it's weak.

Toyota part #`s below. As you can see you need to order 4 items, the top and bottom gasket/washers have the same part # `s.

I give mine a liberal coat of Silver antisieze before fitting for this exact reason as they're a bitch to get out when broken!

Tool below was the best way I found to remove the broken piece.

It's 32mm.
The problem with a standard socket; its too long, I needed to grind down the overall length so the wrench cleared the bulkhead. 32 mm is correct !

here is a pic of one off my spare heads. you can see there are holes in it. if your that worried about snaping it off spray PB from the inside so it get to the threads. the more i look at it that is about the only reason i can see why they put those holes in it.

Those holes are for the banjo fitting that goes there

It's the Union in the EPC, and unless yours is badly corroded, you don't need to replace it.
