im having a problem with my viper alarm system(5900), hopefully someone was able to resolve something similar... to me it seems like the remote isnt sending out a signal. it receives a signal, like when i use the key to open the door it beeps to tell me the alarm is going off and will tell me when the car auto-locks itself. but i cant unlock/lock the car itself. i can disarm the alarm manually and drive by resetting it:

Open Door
Turn Ignition key to 'ON' position
Press and release Valet button ONCE
Press and HOLD Valet button
LED will flash and Horn will honk
Press the Lock button on the remote (arm button)...... btw- keep holding the valet in!
Alarm will chirp to indicat it learned the remote

but as soon as i get out it cant lock/unlock from the remote. im going to try to unplug the brain tomorrow and let it sit out for a while to see if it resets the system, but if anyone has any other ideas let me know. otherwise id have to take it out or reset the remote everytime haha
also, dont know if this makes a difference but this happened after the battery died in the remote. replaced the battery and tried to unlock and nothing
thanks!

Check the antenna. My Clifford stopped working cause the wires took a beating from the sun.

Common problem, unfortunately. In some cases, there is a procedure for programming the brain to accept additional remotes that will fix it... however, there are as many folks on the internet who cannot fix it as can. Many have made claims under the warranty for faulty remotes, and the best plan seems to be NOT letting the battery go entirely dead.

weve had this issue at work, programming a new remote(make sure its compatible, and thats its a 2way, ive spent to long on a car just to discover the remote wasnt compatible  ) should fix it. ive never seen a viper antenna fail, but the avitals do all the time(both made by DEI). was as simple as unplugging old one and plugging new one in.
