Ok I got my head back from the shop a few days ago. They left the valve stem seals in and for the life of me I cannot remove them. I've been fighting them for a few hours with needle nose vise grips to no avail. Any tips or tricks to doing this?

They just pull off. Easier if you have the actual tool made for it. Why would you want to remove them? Didn't the shop put new ones in?
Vise grips are just going to compresse them harder to the nipple they snap onto. You need to get under them and pull.
They didn't. I wanted to learn how to assemble a head so they just did the machine work involved. They were supposed to remove them but but did not so since i read it only takes pliers to remove them I didn't think it was a big deal. A shop told me to try and split them with a flathead but that seems a bit sketchy. I'll probably just take it back to the machinist and make them remove them since they were supposed to anyway.
Didn't think about that. I'm trying to find the actual tool locally. It's starting to just seem easier to just take it back to the shop and have them remove them.
