It seems the time has come that I need to replace my valve stem seals. While my rebuild is only ~50k km old, it seems as though the stem seals were not replaced when the head was built. As a result, my car smokes on startup and after prolonged idling.

I've got a bag of fel-pro valve stem seals that I managed to obtain some time ago. My question is, are these sufficient to use? Anybody have any experiences using them? I'm generally under the beleif that OEM is the way to go with engine internals/seals/gaskets, but if these are of similar quality to the OEM valve stem seals, I have no problem using them (and saving $150 as well)

Toyota Viton.

Fail Pro Viton.

Cometic Viton.

Ishino Viton.

Stone Viton.

Super-Tech Viton.

We share valve seals with numerous motors. 4A-GE is one of them that comes to mine.

Any Questions. ;)

For what it's worth.

The bag of l28 Fail Pro Seals i had said Made in Japan on them.

If 7M seals say Made in Japan. It's probably made by ishino who makes stone who makes toyota gasket sets.

I have a set of DIRT CHEAP viton valve seals on my NA that now have nearly 40k miles on them and my engine never smokes. The seals were included with a $75 dollar FULL GASKET SET. So I'd guess the stem seals had to account for no more than ~10 bucks total.

I'd hesitate to go that cheap on my next turbo motor, but it has worked well for the NA.

Lol, ya that helps. :sarcasm:

Mine was the cheapie from ebay. The brand was Mizumo and the packaging said "Evergreen" all over it.

It was a very basic set, but like I said my stem seals have held perfectly fine for nearly 40k miles.

I probably wouldn't buy a set that cheap again, but I have to say that the cheap POS set has treated me very well so far. :)

not to change subject, but i bought that same brand the evergreen gasket kit for my corolla 1.8, its holding up very fine, i even used the headgasket that came with it, but i made sure it was the same and works perfect, and i ordered a cheap gasket set for the supra as well, but im gonna be using the HKS headgasket tho, but i will try the valve seals as well if its good.

I would be to scared to use ebay gaskets. I have bought parts off of ebay before and have been very disappionted. I have learned my lesson. I do love my cheap exhaust though, she sounds beautifull and isn't to gigantic.
