And here is a pic of my baby:
That goes for like $40 on eBay.
But you need to have the head off to use it.

I guess we all have our own ways.
I have noticed from previous threads on SF, that people do things so differently in this task.
I pretty sure it was Adjuster that was saying that he uses a drill press with an attachment some time ago.

You have to be careful when buying the valve spring compressors because many of them will not work on our heads.

I had to make up a extended piece with slot cut out the side so i can get the collets back in.Then 2nd time had to do my head (spare) i just dropped it off at the headshop and picked it up.My lightened wallet helped counterbalance the weight of the head.

It looks about the same. I think I see how it works too. Does the adjustable ( threaded compressor side) go on top of the valve and compress the lockets and retainers onto the valve?

Jon: It needs the extended bucket shaped part with the notch in the side to work on our heads as the springs are recessed in the Lifter bores.

The one you pictured is for heads where the Spring stick out like a domestic V8.

Already took note of that IJ!:icon_bigg

All i have to do is get a socket and notch the inside just like the one above...I could weld the socket onto the tip of that one above...

would work like a charm!

I said I would cut out the socket. Easy as 1.2.3.

I just took the valves and such out of the head. About 4 of them were a little tough...but none seemed "bent"

how would I tell if any valves were "bent"??

There is no "piston to valve" contact marks on ANY of the valves....and plus the motor supposed to be non-interference.

PS: How do I get out the valve GUIDES ( and lower retainer assymbly)?

Should I have my machine shop take those out? Do they just PRESS out?

Sockets are hardened so pretty tuff to cut!

Leave the guides in the Machine Shop will decide if they need replacing.

Look at the seal surface of each valve(where it seals in the head) it should have a uniform line about 2mm wide if there are any burnt patches in this it will indicate the valve is bent or you have really sloppy guides.

finally I find some links to some good valve spring compressors. Thank you William!!!!! That one at SJ looks Identical to the Snap on. Could be made by the same manufacturer?? I considered getting this one aswell. Its kinda pricey. 3P do you have a link to the thread that showed the PVC route. I know there was a thread on this but cant find it. I bought the compressor mentioned in post #21 from ebay. It is good quality and fits our heads nicely. However, its obviously not going to work if the head is still on the car.
