Just recently my 88 NA developed a problem. When I start it up in the morning a puff of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. This does not happen every day but it will 50% of the time. Also if its parked for a few hours it will happen but not often. It never smokes while driving even if I really get on it. Water levels arent going down so I have hopefully ruled out BHG. It all seems to have started when I put on a set of Doug Thorley headers, 2.5" cat back and adjusted the VAF a few clicks. After doing a bunch of research it looks like it may be hardened valve seals. Anyone know of a working conditioner (snake oil) that might help i.e. rislone, seafoam, marvel etc...

While the symptoms sound like valve stem seals, your smoke color does not. Are you sure it's white? Burning oil produces blue smoke. Water produces white.

Unless there is alot of smoke its hard to tell if its blueish or white...my guess is valve stem seals. Running some Castrol High Mileage has a good chance of making it better. Though its nothing to really worry about. Thats normal for alot of older engines.

I just remembered that I switched to mobil 1 when I did all the mods I listed above. I'll try it at the next oil change.
