Can I get away with NOT replacing these after removing the valve covers? What material is recommended by most supra enthusiasts if I DO replace them? I have never looked into this with this car.

The Cam/Valve Cover Gaskets for our cars are not just a thin little gasket. They're rather thick formed rubber. When you get the covers off instect and clean the gaskets. Check for deformaties, cracks and brittleness. If they're in good shape, but a bit compressed, yes silicone sealant works wonderfully to ensure they seal properly.

no,no,no! Don't use no silicone on them there gasket! just buy a new set and put them on a clean surface with slight smudge of oil,and thats it! just don't over tighten the screws/bolts/ss hex drives

Why silicone? Liquid nails is great for valve covers!

Hell yeah! I'm so glad I'm not the only one ever to try that! :evil2:

I used silicone on my old seals when I got my car... it worked great. Just make sure to give it proper time to cure. Without a doubt, new seals are ideal and inexpensive... I just bought some myself. But, if you're in a pinch silicone will work fine.

Get rid of the stock screws and use hex bolts and lock washers and never look back, and never see a leak again. Doing this with new gaskets is more apealling though.

The only RTV that should be used is at the corners of the front cam caps.
Now IS THE TIME to put new valve cover seals on. do it now, or regret it later.

I second the notion to just buy a new set, worth the price. Mine we fine when I took them off, but I replaced both the gaskets and the rubber backed washers for them as well, as the washer rubber forms into the hole in the gasket. Worth it not to have to take it off and do it again.
