Hey I'm looking for a light car that will handle also that I have a built 350 sbc to put in and I have heard that the w55 tranny from a mklll supra will bolt right up to my small block. Knowing this is a supra forum I probably just made a whole bunch of people mad. I am sorry... But I have a few questions to anyone that will help me out. Here it goes

Does the w55 tranny have the same bolt pattern as the sbc?

Does the w58 have the same as the w55 and which is stronger?

Has this ever been done a sbc in a supra?

And if anyone has seen one like it before how will it affect the weight distribution? I can't imagine a 7mgte weighing much less then a small block...

Thanks to any advice or help in this subject thanks zeth

I do not believe the trans is a boltup to a Chevy engine. Look at the Chevrolet bell housing bolt pattern. It is pointed at the top with one bolt at the apex. The '54 transmission bell housing is completely different. There might be adapter plates available from Transdapt or others. First gear is too low, however. Can't use it in my (estimated) 330 HP 7MGTE. A later GM 5 or 6 speed might be easier with a custom driveshaft. You can buy speedometer correction gearboxes, primarily intended for trucks with different ratios to accommodate variation in rear end ratios. They have standard speedometer cable sheath collar threads.

Be prepared for a fair amount of electrical interface work with the Chevy ECU if you are using a non-carbureted engine. Beware of state inspection hassles if you have to face it.

Yeah its gunna be carbed and I live in Michigan so no emissions as far as the GM 5 or 6 I'm trying to stay on a budget and tremecs are close to 1500-2000 range. The guy that told me about the w55 swap said it was a easy install.

Is there anyway to get a tranny upgraded?

And what do you to to get a taller first gear?

Mk3's aren't "light"

There are adaptors available for either the W or R series Toyota trans (R is stronger)

Been done many times

Improves the car's balance as not only is the motor further back so are all the accessories

Sorry scratch the last post I have done a little more researching and found that I am looking for an R154 trans? They make a complete bellhousing for this so was this put in mklll supras? If not how hard would the swap be?

2 Companies here in Australia make the bellhousing you need, the swap isn't hugely involved it jst depends how complete a package you want at the end ie: Do you retain all of the Mk3 features like AC and Pwr Steer and how do you go about doing that.

I'm adapting the Chev accessories to the Car instead of making brackets to mount the Toyota accessories to the engine.
