i hear u on that one. i read that if u add oil in spark plug galley {if i read it right} it will raise compression.my spark plugs were sitn in a puddle of oil.would that make the compression go up that much. 1-4 were 180 and 5 was 300ish and 6 was 230 ish.i know that would make it that high for 5 and 6 but what bout 1-4?

When I bought my supra the first thing I did was buy a jdm engine..... Payed someone to put it in and my car ran, for a few weeks. I'm sure it would have lasted the whole month if the mechanic wouldnt have been soo bad.... Anyways, long story short.... I got a bhg and repaired that myself.... Two weeks later, I got rod knock. This time I pulled the motor and took it to a good shop here in Houston.... Turns out my jdm engine was actually a cheap rebuild and the mains were on backwards.... This whole mistake of buying a jdm engine, installation, parts, bhg cost me 3,000 dollars or a little more....
With that money, I could have done a great stock rebuild or even a light performance build. Its been 5 to 6 months since my rebuild and me doing all the work with help of some sm friends, and the engine is still in great shape... I am sure some people get lucky and get an engine that was well taken care of but I dont feel its worth it taking that risk. Save your money, rebuild your engine right.... I am sure you will thank yourself later on down the road.

300 is an aberration and not in any way realistic.

180 is on the high side of the spec.

Just a suggestion :naughty:
If there is puddles of oil around your plugs, don't pull them out until you soak up, or suck out that mess.
There is road crap (sand, grit, etc.) usually mixed in with it,
and if you let it drain into the cylinder, well,
oil mixxed with abrassive makes far an excellent grinding compound.......

I use a shop-vac, and a length of small diameter tubing, like an old brake line, to suck the mess out of spark plug wells on engines I work on.

JDM engines are cheap and easy to come by, I got my two for $400+ a piece...

they're good if you're not going to do anything crazy, just torque down and change small wear items, and you're good to go for a while..

I have bought several JDM engines in the past. Do yourself a huge favor, take them to a machine shop and get them looked at by someone who knows what they are doing. If you just bolt them in and expect them to last, you are in for a surprize. Rebuilds are not that expensive and in the long run will last much longer and you will be driving your car instead of planning to fix it.

I would say the 2jz one's are.:icon_bigg

7m's with no known history is a crapshoot. Once the hg is done, compression is verified you should be good to go.

I've bought 3 JDM engines in the past from three different vendors; ranging from $750 to $1350 ea. One was trash, one was missing a turbo, and the last had a few bent valves.

With machine work, gaskets and replacement parts; your looking at $2500+. Unless your current engine is an anchor, I would just dump the money into what you already have.

i know that cause i still have the gauges and everything attached to the front clip of the car lol if you can do math or even a google search you can convert it to miles.

When I bought my car, I was told that the last owner bought a JDM engine and installed an MLS headgasket and ARP studs before he put it into the car a few years ago. It purrs like a kitten and pulls hard! Maybe I just got lucky??

At any rate, I'd be loathe to trust an engine that's 17 years old at the youngest to be 'low mileage'. I'd rather find a used engine locally and give it a fresh rebuild before trusting an engine with no warranty.
