Just have to look at the throttle body linkage setup, usdm motors have the metal bars that go to them and the jdm ones have the wire go straight to them, so the bracket that usually bolts into the valve cover center will not be there and there will be an extra bracket on the intake just before the throttle body that holds the throttle wires. And the heater hoses have to be routed differently as think was already mentioned.

No. You can look at the external features (TB linkage, EGR, etc.) but that doesn't really tell you for sure, as the block/head/etc. is identical.
