Hey all thanks so much for your advise. Yeah i'm going to try the whole magnet thing tomorrow. Does anyone have a pic of inside an oil pan?

Dropped the head off this morning and will get it back monday. If I can't get it out that way I spoke to a mechanic who said he will charge $150au to pull the sump and get that little sucker.

Americanjebus, I like your thinking. Ill drop the current oil and put a funnel on that hole, pour a heap of cheap oil down it a see what comes out.

Once again all, thank you

PS. The pic of the sump would be real good! cheers

I come from a land down under
Pete: I don't have a stock sump handy sorry.

I can describe it though ;)

There's a sheet metal baffle that's horizontal about 50 mm down from the mounting lip, your tool will be sitting on that so I can't see the magent thing working.

I also have doubts that Oil will be enough to "wash" it off the shelf into the bottom of the pan then you have the Lip at the drain plug to get it over if you get that far!

Sorry to sound negetive but I'd just drop the sump.

something allong the lines of this IJ? or is the shelf bigger/ more vertical?

to bad you cant pick up the car and shake it arround untill it falls into hte sump.

i dunno if the shelf isnt much bigger than this a good volume of oil COULD flush it off of the shelf or using an air compressor and nozzle small enough to shoot into that hole. (just plug the other holes so oil doesnt shoot straight up out of the other oil galleys) and a wire feeler/hook could get it to the drain plug, i dunno its worth a try before dropping hte crossmember, $150 is a $150 you got till monday anyway.

IJ. yes it would be more logical to drop the sump but some of us arent used to pulling engines and redoing oil sumps every other day like some people... heh. call me lazy.

AJ: The horizontal shelf is much bigger, think of the pickup there is a big enough hole in the baffle for it to fit through!

Maybe jacking up the back of the car would help but it still might not roll forward as it's a hex key so will probably be sitting on a flat (I'm assuming Petes used a 10mm key in a normal socket and has dropped just the key)

Yeah IJ your spot on about the allen bit. Its supposed to be held in by a tightening bit but kept falling out, and eventually down the oil hole thing.

I tried all day today to flush it out, blow it out, magnet it out..... but nothing. :3d_frown: So ill put it all back together and have it towed to the work shop. A few people have said its to big to be sucked up through the engine but I aint risking it. Thanks once again, Ill update the thread and let you know the out come.:3d_frown:

If the head's already off, you have easy access to the tranny bolts, etc...

It will be much easier to just pull the block and do the rest on a stand. The $$ and time to tow to a shop, drop the crossmember, add a possible alignment, etc.... Just get off the PC and go pull that dang block. It's a bit more wrenchturning, but you'll easily be done and have back in by Monday.

You are basically at that "profound" halfway point... Either way it's gonna take the same effort to make it to the end. Good luck!!

You could always drain the sump cut a hole with a plasma cutter get your allen head out and weld er back up. I know it sounds radical but I bet I could do the whole thing in 30 minutes (providing it didn't catch fire). Keep a extinguisher nearby.
