Hi all. OK so heres the story. Couple of nights ago the car over heated (7mgte). I shut her down instantly and got her towed home. It was late and it was free!. Next day I decided to just go ahead and pull the head off and put on a MHG which I was going to put on to prevent a BHG. Now heres the problem!
The removal went good. Followed Dylans how to and all went pretty good. When I was removing the head bolts the allen socket piece came off and fell straight down a hole in the head. Its at the back of the head on the exhaust side. After I pulled off the head I saw that the hole kept going through the block.

Now the head will be back by Monday and I need to get that sucker out. Its near impossible to see down it. Im going to go shopping for a magnet dubber whacky thing 2morrow but dont like my chances. Heres a pic. Where does it go! will it be in the sump? do I have to remove the sump? Please Im desperate and really peaved off. Any help is really appreciated.

LOL well heres the scene. I just leant back on my chair looked at the cieling and said poo. Im now going to get a beer and contenplate removing the sump. Now the cross member has to be removed to remove the sump right?

Also IJ, I tried pocking a bending thing down there. It stopped after maybe a foot? Im guessing the tunnel bends right?

About a foot down you hit the shallow end of the sump which then goes forward and down into the deep end :(

Yes you'll need to drop the K Member.

Personally I'd pull the whole motor and do the bearings while you're this deep into it.

I see where your coming from IJ but its not really an option at the moment. I double checked and its only going down about 15cm. Could it be hitting the crank shaft? Any pics of the other side?

Also anyone got the link to the tsrm of removing the sump?

Ah IJ you rock. once again solved my problem. Now what are my chances of getting that sucker out without removing the sump. I know already 0%. So next is to find the TSRM section. Anyone? Also any tips and tricks would be great. and whats that stuff called that is the gasket stuff for the sump?

LOL. Oh well I guess the sumps gotta come off. All that work for a little allen socket peice.:3d_frown: Maybe I could drag it out with a magnet on the outside of the sump? Anyway. I need that beer. I hope someone knows the link to removing the sump. Cheers again IJ.:icon_surp

Dang, thats one F&%K of a job just to drop the pan. I'm going to try and drag it along with a magnet on the outside of the pan?:1zhelp: Otherwise put the whole thing back together and have it towed somewhere. Mmmmm the beer was good. Thanks IJ.

why don't you get a flex magnet, pull the oil cooler return line banjo out, and see if you can drag the socket through there.... or see if it will come out the oil plug hole first..... That oil drain is pretty big..

yea dude, dont pull the pan yet, drain your oil, get a bigass magnet and pull the peice into the sump and get it out of hte drain hole. i dunno how much there is that it could get caught on in the process of falling in there. or get a quart of cheep oil w/ your drain plug open and just pour oil down that hole so the falling oil will carry the allen head with the current of the oil into the sump and you should just be able to fish it out.

i should know this but wut does the allen head look like i've seen like 3 different kinds and i dont know how you would "drop" one in that hole.

try finding a old speaker with a BIG magnet(try somthing like a blown sub woffer) and move it out that way. im sure that magnet from a old sub has more than enough pull to get the tool out.
