look at it this way, jeff...
it's Ian...
if he's gonna drop a v8 in a supra, you know it's not gonna be a weekend with an 8lb sledge and a ford 302...
it'll be a built toyota v8 of some variety and a turbo somewhere involved, also some LPG, a couple carbs... you know. he'll keep it interesting.

wont ya, IJ?
:p

So my question is: Why upgrade coils? Has anyone actually established what the limits of the stock coils are?

~Blake

After installing AEM CDI box I found huge arcing from the body of every stock coil to the ground :icon_mad: I think 16 years old coils are tired, have lot of microcracks. I sprayed some of Hi Gear stuff on them (high voltage parts treatment) - arcing is less.
I am not sure whether to buy new stock or aftermarket coils. Stock coils look cleaner IMHO and I will not have problems with ignition wires length.

Guys, does anybody run ignition box with stock coil? Just want to know how strong they are when new.
Thanks

well, i got 2 complete sets of coils from late 80's nissan pulsar's wit hthe harnesses, so i have 8 coils. gonna test them and use the 6 best and make a harnes for them and a bracket for them to bolt to so it looks nice and clean in between the valve covers. guess i dont need he msd coils after all.
