upgraded coil packs for 1jz/2jz

ok so i think my coil packs are going bad on my 1j at least that the conclusion they have hair line cracks on them -so does any on have upgraded coil packs or no of any other after market performance coil packs form another car that well work ?

my friend told me some msd mustang coil packs would work and that i just have to change the connector but i dont want to wast my money on some BS that might not work any one head of this before?

no such thing... get some new ones or used ones in known good condition and call it a day.

the GM dual coils will work in our cars but not sure how they will do with boost.

Im running the MSD gm style for 3 years now work great under boost you have to rewire buts it quite easy.

check out the COP sticky in the 7mgte forum, step by step of how to replace the stock coils with the 2jz vvti coils. seems the hardest part of it is finding coils (unless you get em new)

^ Yes The IS 300 runs the 2JZ VVTI engine coils J3PZ is talking about.

Just put clean nail polish on the cracks and wrap them with 1" heat shrink (the whole tube). They should be fine then.

so that cop setup is an ugrade aswell as bay cleanup?
Doesn't DM carry those coils for the cop setup?

yes as well as the plug wires you will need

I use epoxy, but yeah.


And new coil pack connectors are like $35 for all 6. A worthwhile investment.

Instead of using COP is there a way to upgrade the system and use Direct Fire Ignition System DFIS because my 4th gen Altezza engine(3SGE B.E.A.M.S. Black Top) came factory with this did toyota start using this after 2000? on all motors, input would be apreciated basically its like COP except it also built the ignitor componenets into the COP pack eliminating the ignitor modual making the engine bay a little cleaner.
