wrong, ct20 is the badass turbo that came on the celica gt4 in japan, the ones that made 276hp stock! ct26 is a piece of sh!t compared to ct20. they do swap, but they are rare, and expensive.

one jay, I really hope that you're not serious- the 20 is a much smaller, much weaker turbo than the 26. heres a picture i found right here on the forum using the search(the ct26 on the left, 20 on the right):

Crack kills.

Stick with the CT-26. No, seriously.

I'm not entirely sure where you got your information from, but you're dead wrong. Disco Potato, anyone? LOL.

When a manufacturer sets up a car, a LOT more goes into the design than maximum performance. Warranty, longevity, fuel mileage, emissions, driveability, safety, insurance ratings, quiet running, comfort, these all play a role.

The MKIII Supra was never intended to be a pure sports car, nor was it intended to have slam you in the seat performance. Please remember that this was Toyota's top of the line showcase for high tech luxury performance. This car was built as a personal luxury car with a performance trend. It's a GT car, not a detuned version of a WRC rally car.

The crap you folks come up with sometimes simply amazes me. The street version of the CT-20 in the GT4 ran .9 bar of boost through a water/air intercooler. This car was built solely for the purpose of giving Toyota placement in the WRC.

The MKIII supra (not the turbo A) was built as a pure street car, big, heavy, quick and comfortable. The USDM street version of the CT-26 runs .5/6 bar of boost through a very low mass air/air intercooler. The 7M (and CT-26) are detuned to a very conservative level consistent with long warranties, fuel usage, drivability and comfort.

When turned up to .9 bar (about the efficient flow limit of the CT-26) the 7M-GTE will blow the doors off the 3S-GTE with the CT-20 at the same boost level. It also puts stresses on things that would prohibit long warranties, decent fuel economy (for that period), comfort and drivability.

The CT-26 is a larger, more capable turbo. Please know what you are talking about before giving people advice...

Also, I'd like to point out that there is a CT20 (which is pictured above) from the 80's, and the updated CT26 design that people like to call the CT20B, they are not the same thing, and there is a lot of confusion about them in this thread. The newer GT4 turbo does not say CT anything on the compressor housing, it is blank. (Just says "Toyota"). It's basically the same size externally as the Supra's CT26.

I don't think it is right for the Supra, as it has a smaller exhaust side for a 4-cylinder. It will probably spool faster, but I think your best option is a new-design aftermarket turbo and manifold. It makes the most sense to do that if you're going to the hassle of taking things off and modifying. If money is tight, stick with the CT26 from the Supra until you can get something worth upgrading to.

Unless you need a new turbo because yours is blown and you need the car to drive, etc, etc, don't bother with the CT20B on a 7M. Unless you just feel like trying it, in which case, go for it!

Regardless of what you do, have fun!

Jeff

There were a couple up close pictures of Turbo A turbos next to stock CTs in one of the Turbo A build threads.

No, they're all CT-26 A's. Look at any pic of a CT-26, and there's an A on it.
