Hey Dan! A buddy of mine went with upgrading his CT26. He went with TurboNetics, I believe. They told him that they have upgraded turbos on the shelf ready to go and when you send one in for the "Upgrade", they inspect yours and if it's a good core then they just grab one of the 'ready to go' ones off the shelf and get it out to you. They use this process for quick turnarounds.

I may be able to help you out in this situation. I have two complete engines. One is in my car; but, has a knock. It's just sitting on mounts ready to come out.

The other engine is completely disassembled and on the engine stand. I'm rebuilding it to replace the one with the knock.

I am going to upgrade one of mine turbos. The other will just sit there until I blow something and need it.

This is just an idea; but, I could send one of my turbos in to your selected rebuilder, they inspect, if they find it good enough to rebuild, then have it rebuilt and sent back to you. Then when you get it, send me your old one. It'll solve your downtime concern anyway...

Just my thoughts...

The upgraded CT-26 is definantly the biggest bang for the buck.

But if your willing to spend a little extra, I would go with the Boss or SP61GT that can bolt on to your stock manifold and downpipe. Your 7M will have great top-end power that you will never see in the CT-26choker.

The thing with BOSS turbo's is this: ITS is no longer in business, so BOSS turbos MAY disapear, I'll be emailing Greg at Suprasport now to find out his game plan.

I am not going anywhere! I just received a new lot of castings to machine. Comp Turbo is ITS as far as I am concerned. Justin and Joe have been making my turbo's for over 2 years. Now I get better turn around time and they stand behind it even more, now that they have there name on the line.
I have a new line of T-4 Boss Turbo's almost up and ready to go. Comp Turbo will be the ones getting them, so, Yes I believe in Comp Turbo all the way.

This is a tempting offer, but I think I'm going to see what I can do for other upgrade options. The upgraded CT26 sounds like good bang for the buck, but there seems to be too much probability of a "bang" for my paranoid nature.

So far, the turbonetics option seems to be promising...

Ok. Well, it is a "No Strings Attached" offer. Any opportunity to help keep an MKIII on the road, is a good opportunity. If you have a change of heart, let me know.

Also, keep me posted on what upgrade you go with and how well you like it!

From my experience:

CT-26 (57trim)- Cheap. Almost instant response, tons of torque, but does not pull hard to redline. Not much happening after 20psi.

SP61GT- No more instant response, but smoother and still plenty quick spooling. Lots of power, pulled hard into the rev limiter. High boost- even more power..

SP59GT with HKS long runner manifold- Lost more spool (because of the manifold). No more fun in 1st gear. Lots of power, even beyond pump gas like the SP61GT.

GT35R with long runner manifold- Spools like my SP61GT. Still breaking in my engine..Stay tuned.
