Two weeks back, I posted I had a cracked turbine housing on my stock ct. My turbo guy didnt want to build it, now I bought a turbo recently on ebay as a 'rebuildable core', come to find out, its cracked too, in the exact same spot my old one is... Im running out of ideas but my step father offered to braze the crack with a brass rod in the furnace. Its worth a try at this point, im just wondering if I should pursue the guy who sold me the turbo for my money back, what do you guys think??? Thanks, Gary.

Stop wasting time and money on garbage. Just gather up some patience, put some money in the bank and buy what you really want *BRAND NEW*. Pay for piece of mind. And a warranty lol

dave, unfortunately, if anybody wanted peice of mind, a 20 year old sports car w/ 170k miles would be out of the question. This car is my toy<pun intended>. My rebuilder would love to give me a 1 year warranty, if I can find him a good housing. Any one else think I should persue the seller?

Call Jon (MDC) I sent him a perfect core ~6weeks ago (I didn't need it). I don't know if he still has it, but if so, just buy it built from him....

Thanks for all of the replies guys, I think I will pursue the seller. It was kinda of funny that the box is covered in majestic turbo packing tape.... I think the seller knew that the crack was present and just tried to pass his problem to someone else. Lessons learned, #1. I am an idiot, #2. Listen to your turbo guy, one persons "core" is another persons 130 dollar(after shipping) paper weight.

A "rebuildable core" should be just that, rebuilable but depending on the amount that you spent on it I would probabally persue.

Unfortunately, I am dealing with a local rebuilder(Forced Performance). Although they specialize in DSM's, I like their work and its someone I can really trust, and If I ever have a problem, I can drive 10 minutes and yell at someone in person.(j/k)

honestly man id just send it out to john at MDC. ive dealt with majastic and will never do business there again. i had a turbo they rebuild fail in under 300 miles which john later explained to me was from unneeded machine work on the center that they later used undersized bearings one (imagine going .20 over on a motor rebuild but using .40 over pistons and you kinda get the idea). ive heard some things about forced performance but it was maily mixed reviews, some people loved them and some hated them.

John knows about the ct26 and the mk3 supra. you dont take your toyota to a ford dealership and expect them to have the same level of knowledge about whats going on.

Your right on the money, but I like the fact of dealing with locals, if their is a problem, they will fix it, or I throw it through their 9 second DSM. A good friend of mine actually has a DSM and he had hard pipes made and they forgot to check the pipes for "foreign objects", the tech test drove it, no problem, when my friend got it, an aluminum L bracket got lodged in his two week old 20G. Forced took care of him and their new policy is "We dont do hardpipes anymore". But they took care of him and then some. I just got the turbo back today, man it looks sweet, I have to go into Plano to get the rest of my gaskets and then I will be back on the road, and not driving this stupid mustang :nono:

Ohh yeah, I contacted the seller of the 'would be' core, he is going to take care of it for me, although im still out 30 dollars of getting the turbo shipped to me and 20 for shipping it back, so Ive spent 150 bucks and Im only getting 100 back.... Fedex > my wallet. I am glad he is taking care of it.

i missed the part where a small crack in the exhaust housing of a ct is really that big of a deal? 95% of them have them and as long as they arent the grand canyon crack it really isnt going to effect anything on the measely ct.

It all depends on where the crack is, how big it is, and how many of them there are.

I have rebuilt hundreds of "cracked" ct26's. Small spider cracks in the wastegate area.

OEM rebuilders say that any cracked housing is junk. I have personally swapped housings on the same turbo, and have found no difference in spool or performance. (Cracked VS. Uncracked)

Again, it all depends on the three things I listed above.

exactly...unless its a huge crack or theres a ton of them..i wouldnt even worry about it personally.
