why in the hell would they want to total it? all it needs is a new damn bumper. from the pics the car looks fine.... that pisses me off
Because it is a freakin old car that in terms of blue book value isn't worth the cost of repairs.
Unless you have receipts to prove the added value of you car you're most likely screwed.
I worked for Enterprise Rent A Car years ago and dealt with every insurance company. The way you're treated usually depended on wether you were the claimant or the insured and how bad the accident was, i.e. DWI, DUI, reckless driving etc... I found Allstate to be the worst for claimants. They would ALWAYS try to use cheap foreign parts for DOMESTIC cars instead of OEM. They were awful and would literally argue over nickel and dime shit, like the daily price of a rental back then of $14.99/day. They wanted $14.95/day. State Farm was almost as bad but the liked to try to assign a percentage of fault to the claimant and then deduct that off what they wanted to pay. Saying that you were 25% at fault because blah blah blah reason.... and so on. Oh, and not wanting to pay for the cost of new windshields or fenders because of pre existing damage, even though they were destroyed in the wreck. I could go on but I digress...
Try negotiating with them and settle. This will NOT be worth an attorney. Oh, and keep a lid on your temper. I know your pissed but believe me, ins adjusters will lowball for being an asshole. I've heard a many say they have.
Good Luck and I'm sorry this had to happen to you.
