Unusual question about backfire

What I am wondering is when the car backfires (afterfires), does the flame make it all the way out of the muffler? I haven't had anyone follow me yet to tell me yes or no. I have seen videos of cars backfiring and you can clearly see flame. Just wondering if every backfire produces a flame that can be seen from the rear of a car. Mine can be freaking loud.

I had a backfire at night once, under an overpass.... lit up the entire overpass :momaru:

Not every backfire will have a flame. It only happens to me when the exhaust is hot after boosting. My best friend helped me move and after following my car he said it shot 2 big flames, pretty sure it happened right after boosting.

My twin turbo v8 240z had 4" sidepipes and used to make a LOT of flame on overrun, out in the country at night if you gave it a big squirt and backed off it was daylight both sides of the car
(accidently burnt a cyclist slowing in traffic)

Nope, no cats here. The exhaust is a custom 3" with a straight through muffler.
And it also only does it after boosting. Not everytime though. I would say 20% of the time going from 1st to 2nd. Maybe 10% of the time in any other gear. If I shift at a lower RPM, it doesn't backfire.

mine will do it on occassion, but I'm thinking it's the faulty TPS (which is being replaced tommorow)

but yes, with a full turbo back exhaust with no cat and a straight through muffler, yep you'll spit flames....
