Thanks so much for the offers boys :D

I'll start looking into the airfares more in the coming weeks... I am pretty sure there is a travel agent here that lets you reserve a plane ticket and then pay it off over the course of a couple months... Fingers crossed!!!!!!

Which would be the best airport for me to fly into?

Ryan - I think Keri and Joe may be making it down for 2K9.

I'm honestly not sure if we can afford it this year or not ... attempting to get the Alltrac fixed properly & running & not overheating is putting a bit of a strain on the finances along with Christmas gifts atm.

Alex, are you going this year or next?

Houston Hobby is more of a regional airport. Flying in there would depend on where you land first in the states, and if the particular airline would fly in there or not. I believe it would be closer to Katy than Intercontinental.

Houston Intercontinental is the big international airport there. They receive all the direct international flights. DFW International (where I work) is about 4.5 hours away.

Coming from Australia, would you land in California first? If so then you can catch a Southwest flight from there to Hobby. Southwest Airlines dominates Hobby. AA, AmeriWest, or AirTrans also fly in there. There are a few others as well.

Kristel, I will split my room with you. As far as I know, I'm staying alone, and I'm a perfect southern gentleman (aka...Good Ole Boy).

Ken, if my car won't make it, I'll catch a ride in Jay's car as he pulls through here. Of course he'll have to let me use the keys, so at least the radio will work. I can talk to him once we get there, and he gets out of the truck.

And I agree, I 'd love to get to meet Kristel as well.

Scott do you fear your car not making it? If Jay is pulling his car, what makes you think he'll let you sit in it? You'll be in the bed of the truck!:biglaugh:

So where does everyone plan on staying? The Omni is out of my price range. Lincoln aka Bluechalluppa lives in Katy and said there are several other places fairly close to the Omni. It would be nice to be close if not at the same place.

Yeah, coming from Aus, I would have to land at LAX to go through customs, so my options are wide open for what airport is best for me to fly to from there... I'm happy to fly anywhere and join a convoy the the meet (if anyone will have me as a passenger!)

Then I would just catch a Southwest flight to Houston Hobby. I say Southwest because they are usually the cheapest, but whatever airline that flies into Hobby will work. It'll put you very close to Katy, where the event is.

How much could it possibly cost you? You're probably not more than four hours away. You could drive down, stay for the day, and then drive back.

It's well worth a four hour drive just to meet a lot of cool people and see some gorgeous cars.

Actually Ken, Hobby and IAH are about the same distance from Katy. IAH might be slightly further but not much to make a difference.

The Omni hotel is not exactly in Katy. It's a very upscale hotel so the prices may be a little high. Check around if you want better prices!

I have no doubt you're right, especially on the distance factor. Now I know, IAH is a madhouse. KHOU would be easier to get out of. We fly into Hobby a lot with my part time job and it's easy in, easy out. Houston airspace is another issue, but I digress... The one time we had to land at IAH, we spent so much time on the ground trying to taxi it was unbelievable. God only knows how much Jet-A we burned just on the ground.

The group rate for the Omni is $119/night if I remember correctly. That's too fancy smancy for me.:biglaugh:

Wrd. If you guys head down, I'm sure Matt would be more than happy to offer you guys a place to stay the weekend at his place. Probably the only things that will cost you would be food, gas (should still hold steady at about $2/gal by then), and maybe tickets to each event unless you guys plan to participate. But yes, Keri, I will be making it to the 2K9 events (or at least try to) along with the Austin cruise we've got simmering if that's what you were asking since this year's event happened back in March. :)

Krystal - As Ken said, IAH is the big daddy airport here on the north side of town taking care of the international flights. Ideal if you're coming straight from AUS to here. If not, Hobby is your best bet if you're making a connecting flight from elsewhere on the west coast. If you happen to be coming through IAH, I'd be more than happy to pick you up as I live about 15 minutes from there.

As I've already said, coming from Aus, I HAVE to go through LAX for customs/immigration... From there, I'll most likely find the cheapest place to fly into, and then join a convoy/cruise to the meet...

Where are all the convoys/cruises coming from? (so I can sort out if I want to fly into another state and join them for the drive)

Kristel, I know plenty of folks will be coming out of Florida. I know Pensacola Fl , Mobile AL, and Gulfport Ms are all fairly cheap. I think Gulfport is probably the cheapest with all of their Casino travelers. Those are all small low traffic airports. There will be plenty of Supra traffic coming through I-10 through all of those. There are several well known members who are all great people along that stretch as well.

gulfport air port is 20 minutes from my house, which would be an easy stop for me, jay, scott, and george. then we will be on our way to meet up with the new orleans members who we are traveling with to texas.

Wardog, you going to be drag racing this year? I think that we already have 10 people signed up for it. there is a huge thread on SF about it.
