Hi everyone, I just had a few questions about my supra. I first want to say my supra is my first car, so I am learning as I go and I don’t know all that much, unfortunately.
I have a 1989 supra N/A turbo, with about 118,000 miles on it.
My first question is about the rear end. It began making noises and sort of shaking as I was going around turns. I changed the fluid in it and it only helped for a little while, it has since continued. I’m thinking its something with the posy traction? But I’m not sure, and I was wondering if this was a typical thing with supra’s of this age?
Secondly, today when turning on my car, it seemed to initially idol a lot lower than usual, and almost felt like it was going to stall. As it warmed up the rpms when to their usual range. I just was wondering what the problem may be with that?
Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Your cold start injector or idle speed control sensor could not be working properly. I think that is what is causing the car to have a low idle at inital start-up. As for the lsd. If the rpms are under about 1800 revs. the car is growling sound. What you can do, is when you go around a corner downshift and bring the revs up you shouldn't get that sound as much. Don't worry, you have a great car.

what the hell does engine rpm have anything to do with the LSD slipping???? I have a feeling boy knows when his engine is lugging do to low rpm while driveing....but that has no effect on an LSD working or not.

You may want to try adding the ford friction modifier in, that may keep it from chattering in turns. Its 4.99 at the Ford house, worth a shot. part number is xl3

Read the #1 post. He said he hears noises from the cockpit while going into turns and then accelerating out of them...Rpms would give you and idea right? Out of every supra I've had (4 of them) I have never had a bad LSD but they all made noise when I accelerated from lower Rpms.

What is it, a n/a or turbo? 5-spd or automatic? mine is n/a, auto and is non-lsd. Mine sometimes makes noises while making high speed turns. i've changed my fluid and it still does it. might just be something with the individuals car

actually ive read it many times...I think you need to gander over it again! Not once did he mention noise from the "cock pit", what he DID say though was that he hears his REAREND makeing noise...and I'll bet its a clunking noise or even a sharp pinging sound...

Get some friction modifier from ford and see if that clears it up....if not you may want to start saveing for a rebuild.

Try checking the diagnostic trouble codes, the link is below, in my signature. Never throw parts at the car.

If you can't get it sorted out, I'd be happy to take a drive down to help you sometime. (I'm the dude who left the note on your window long ago for you to join here. ;))
