well heres my .02cents, but id rather have 400whp at say 4k with a set of twins, insted of having 600 at 6800 with a large single, cause, having more power down low in the power band you drive, and are more likly to be in more often, cause the way i see it, if your droping out of full boost everytime you shift then whats the point of having boost? but i dont know i guess thats just me. so twins in my mind are better over all...

only problem with that, is that if you have a motor that likes to be high in the rpms (i.e. 1JZ) if your making a peak power of 400whp at 4K rpms, your not gonna be able to carry that power up to 7500-8000 rpms

now with a single, even if it makes 600whp peak at 6800, youve got to realize that its gonna be making 400whp at under 5K rpms unless youve got a lag monster turbo.

foreverpsychotic: like your dealing with right now, b4 i did my swap i saw all the people that were having trouble with the twins going out pretty soon after the swap, so i waited (bout 2 months extra) to build the single kit. my suggestion is go pretty good sized off the bat, i started with a 60-1 setup and now im on my third setup with a 72mm, the feel of a single'd car is hella addictive

wasn't too bad man

took us a weekend to rip the twins off AND install the single minus fabbing the DP and stuff.

and we had to do a LOT of shit (ie: drill out the holes in the wastegate for it to fit, and grind off a bit of the waterneck for the manifold to fit smoothly.) so its really not that bad. but out of the car is obviously 5000000000 times easier.

Twins have been on my car since Oct. 2006, ypipe/dp was put on Jan 2007. The twins started smoking around the end of summer. It will be time to replace them in about a month or so. They still boost and drive fine, the only time they ever smoke is when the car is stopped idling at full temp.

I wish I:
Broke the twins in easier (Boosted them pretty hard when I got the car back)
Installed a catch can sooner (1jz PCV valve recall)

They probably would have lasted a lot longer. Oh well, shoulda coulda woulda.

Check the shaft play on the turbos when you get them and look for oil.

I didn't do my single swap till about 3 months after installing the 1J. I had the motor out to do the swap and in the process did a full engine gasket kit. Along with going full standalone and other things. I did a lot of things at once so it was worth it for me to pull the motor. I don't think I would have been able to put the single turbo exhaust manifold on without the motor out. It's literally a few millimeters away from the frame because of it's size. If you plan just to do a single turbo upgrade then leave the motor in. The single is worth the hassle. Have fun though!

That all depends on the size of turbo(s) you use.

I could have said the same general statement you did but switched the words single and twins.
