EDIT: After reading all that I just wrote it seems a bit redundant on some of the stuff already stated in this thread but I just wrote all this so I'm gonna be hard-headed and post this anyways. Hopefully it garners some feedback. /EDIT
Ok, so I need some opinions. I may need to make a new thread since this one sucks and doesn't get many views.
I've been going over what's left to go turbo with what I currently have and I'm having second thoughts after doing some research.
Here's what's going on:
- I got a free turbo block from Mattsmall. The block is unknown condition with no signs of catastrophic failure visible from the top. (Pistons all look fine and the cylinder walls look fine with no visible scratches from my brief observance of it) (I have yet to take the oil pan off though...)
- I would use the head off my 7mge that is in the car since it was recently cleaned and machined.
- A bunch of people are offering to donate parts towards this build to make it happen
- I would still need more than a $1000 to complete the swap IF I find the block is ok to use as-is.
From reading threads on here though, it seems like I need to tear the block down and probably/possibly rebuild it and at least re-ring it and hone it. I need some opinions on what to do!
Should I hold off on getting parts and wait to see the diagnosis of the block? If the block is within spec, go ahead with the build. If it's not....then what?
Goals:
-Stock 7MGTE with MHG and ARP'S, later on raise the boost, blah blah, just BPU no upgraded turbo.
-That's all I want
