So I'm driving on the freeway, and all the sudden it feels like I'm hitting a giant wall of zero acceleration. After some super sluthing... well okay, after checking over the motor, and watching boost gauge, the zero wall of acceleration is cause the turbo won't create positive boost. The boost guage accurately reads negative pressure, but as soon as I get to rev's where the turbo should spool....

zero boost, and TONS of smoke. My car runs rich as it is, but this is silly.

I wasn't driving hard, just cruising on the freeway, and then poof, no more turbo boost. Whats the deal?

From the way you are describing it, sounds like a massive boost leak.
If part of your IC pipe comes off, your car will not boost and feel very underpowered, not only that but you will get LOTS of black smoke and smell straight fuel. There are other things that could be a possibility, but check all your IC pipes and especially clamps. I had this problem acouple times...

*EDIT* How does it idle?

Yep - sounds like you popped a hose somewhere from the compressor, to the intercooler, to the 3000 pipe....that's exactly what it will do.

Yeah...Trust me, I am the broken clamp King...;)

If part of your upper IC pipe pops off (to the TB), your car will barely idle if not just die on you. If it's something such as your hose/tube that runs to your BOV/BPV, it will idle steadily, but might have a "slight" hesitation in throttle response, and you will not boost very much(2psi), if at all.

Boost leaks FTL. :(

check the coupler from the 3000 pipe to the throttle body. When the tb slams closed that coupler takes most of the backed up force before the bov can release it. (ask me how I know ;) I busted 2!!)

ok, just checked hoses from the BOV, its connected. the coupler from the 3000pipe to the TB is secured. The BOV seal looks good, nothing looks out of the ordinary.

Oh, and fyi, its not the stock intercooler setup. its the HPF (turbo -> intercooler -> greddy BOV -> TB)

gotta be a boost leak... loosen, position again, and tighten all of your clamps... doesnt take that long and im sure itll solve your problem.. Check vaccum hoses too, though theyre all too small to cause you to bog so bad youre making a ton of black smoke and only getting to 2-3 psi.

Do you have a hardpipe set-up? The coupling at the turbo is subject to a lot of heat and tends to be one of the 1st to crack.

yea its hardpipes, except coming out of the turbo, thats a hose, drops down a foot and a half or so, then mates up with hardpipes to the intercooler and the rest of the intake. Someone on SF suggested to check the wastegate actuator. I checked the hose coming out of it, that was fine, what else should I do?

Betcha it's the hose coming out of the turbo to the hard pipe to the intercooler...it's hard to see and a PITA to get to. Check the fender pipe too...that's another common location for a leak.

Well, just in case you were talking about a different one than this, check your lower IC pipes...as jdub said, they ARE a PITA to get to...but I'll bet my Supra and all it's parts that its a boost leak.......er....Well, maybe not. ;) But that's my guess. :)

I checked the softpipe last night, it was in great condition. Checked all the hard pipes, they're all tight.

I unbolted the actuator from the turbo, it was sticking a little bit when i moved it back and forth, so I sprayed some WD40 on the wastegate side, that allowed it to move more freely... and thus i thought i solved the problem.

nope. still won't boost above 2psi. should i have done any lubrication to the actuator side of the rod? Any other ideas? How do I check to see if the BOV is wide open (i was thinking there might be a problem with the BOV...) I've got a GReddy RS.

highly unlikly but are you sure you didn't pop a intake manifold gasket, but if nothing else is crack or stuck open check them. A good way to check is with the car runing spray your intake manifold with carb cleaner if you have a good size leak there the revs on the car will go up also good way to check your intercooler lines.
