What did Majestic Turbo (MT) say about it?? I'm very curious cause last I delt with them my upgraded CT26 failed within days. I sent my turbo back them for inspection. The tech that inspected it said he didn't know how it failed cause it didn't look like oil starvation. They blame the failure on me and wanted me to pay for another rebuild at full cost. I asked to speak to the owner about it. After my request they avoided my calls for about a month and a half. I finally contacted my credit card company and had the charges reversed. All of a sudden MT called me wanting to resolve this issue, so they could get their money back. They still wanted me to cover some of the cost of rebuilding that turbo. Bunch of assholes if you ask me. I bet they treated me like that because I didn't live in the same city. I do not recommend them at all.

The Sp61GT is oil cooled only and the SP61gtBB is both oil and water cooled.

I happen to agree that the failures of these turbos is an oiling issue or rather the lack of it. The -3AN line with the restrictor that they provided, just did'nt make much sense to me for an oil cooled only turbo.

Lipp makes another bolt on kit, the BOSS, is there any know issues with it like there is with the SP61? The reason I ask this is because that's the kit I'd like to have.

My best friend has had the Boss 550 kit on his supra for quite some time now and has'nt had a problem yet, it is constantly boosted hard. I reccomed the kit to anyone who wants:

-EASE of installation
-VALUE, you really get what you pay for in the kit!!!!!
-500+hp capability
-Fast spool up time
-and RELIABILITY.

P.S.- He made 493hp/478tq on a metal headgasket with arp's, Aeromotive FPR, RC 550's, 3in exhaust/dp, and an Apex S-AFC untuned at 14psi!!!!

That's very respectable there, what exact kit did he get? I either want a stage 4 or 5, big shaft option, 61 trim with GTS cover, SS oil lines. Both stages offer these options, the stage 5 is rated like 50 extra hp iirc. Maybe the A/R is a little bigger in stage 5, they don't say.

update: just got off the phone with Majastic. Massive bearnig failure cause by oil contamination. Same story as before. heres where it gets better.

After talking with them at length we found out a few things. the -3 line is more then likely too small for pressure and flow. also the length of the line is more then likely too long causing excessive bends and dips creating an even smaller oil passageway further restricting flow. these conditions could be causing an oil starvation issue when cruising and then getting on it. The hypothesis is that when cruising (20 psi oil pressure) and suddenly romping on it (stop-and-go traffic) causes momentairly loss of viscosity and lube to the bearing until pressure builds with engine rpms (60psi at normal cruise at highway speed)

the possible solution: go with a shorter -4 line and see what happens.

i will be sending an oil sample off for analysis also to see exactly whats going on in there. we will see exactly what is in my oil, including what mind of material (turbo bearings, engine wear etc) is causing the failures. stay tuned.

Damnit. I knew I shouldve stayed with an upgraded ct. Hopefully a new oil feed line will alleviate the problem.

The turbo is well out of warranty, but it has barely been run. I tore my car apart and tried to sell my sp61 with a custom bic ddp for less than the price of a new sp61. Noone would bite on the offer, so I just put it back onto my car. Now with all these threads popping up about the poor quality of this turbo; I am really worried about it being installed on my car. I just dont have the cash nor do I want to waste time dealing with a poorly designed product. I am going to start my motor here witin the next week and I will see how the oil feed is working. I may just have another feed line made.

I wonder how many more people are having the same problem. If this was a poor design of the oiling system, I would feel that SP should take resposability for it. My SP61gt spent 6 month total being repaired out of the 1 year warranty period, then when I opted for the B.B. upgrade, there was hardly any credit for this fact and my total cost came to $1200. Way to high in my opinion.

Now a short question off the subject of repairs. What is the max HP these turbos have made and at what PSI of boost. We don't have a Dyno out here in Guam and I would just like a guesstimate of what I might be making.
