i'm wondering what the specs on these cams because there may be some good gains from running a na intake turbo exhaust cam set up maybe?

I come from a land down under
NA Cams into a GTE is a bit "back to the Future" it dates back to when there wasn't an affordable aftermarket set of cams and the whole "A 7M doesn't need cams they make no difference" mindset......

NA "Cam" (one only) would move the powerband making the car more responsive around town but as noted they run out of puff up high and for anything other than a stock CT26 would be a waste of time.

I ran a GT30R way back using NA Cams and it ran out/choked at 6000, I can't say 100% which was the cause of this but I suspect it was the Cams as the GT30R's were making much more power than my car made on other motors.

in my N/A (with matching cams), the car pulls hard from 3-5000rpm, then starts to pull even harder once i pass about 5000rpm. so maybe this only affects the turbo'd motors?

Kind of what I'm thinking. The ACIS butterfly switches between short and long runners, IIRC, so I think the NA cam is tuned specifically for the short runner setup.

this is only for n/a
when mine was n/a since its a na-t now it did the same thing
but turbo cars are differnt, also keep in mind that the ct26 chokes the engine at higher rpm thats really the only reason to me why the numbers fall down

im running a GE motor with a ct26 (for now ;))

i jus measured a set of turbo cams that i have and measured right where the tsrm said it would be (38.35mm) but according to the manual the NA cams are 38.16 (ill be checking mine tomorrow), could this little difference in height cause this much of a difference? i dont have the tools to measure duration of the cam, but could that be the difference? does anyone have the duration of both cams?

thanx

i doubt that normal wear and tear on a cam would drastically change the performance of the engine, there would have to be serious damage to the lobes to change them that drastically from each other......

anyone know the cam specs for lift, duration, and LSA while we re on the topic???

Why worry about a drastic change, when the dispute on this topic is only about 10 hp or so? And by the way, the more outrageous the engine, the more the added lift will benifit. .35mm is enough that Toyota recomends changing it, so it probably does effect performance.

And for whomever asked about the specs...

I will be changing back to the turbo cams because I like the high end. Plus I just got my first drive in a 1jz and I love the top end. I'm jealous and need to do a swap.

Glad to know I made a difference. BTW, I didn't show you my top end at all, I was shifting at 5k :p

For auto-x I would keep the NA cams, for drag I would go with the turbo cams.

Yep, Thanks to foreverpsycotic I may be going 1jz. But I definitely swap back to turbo cams and get a newer ct-26 that isn't blown.
Does anyone know if the 1jzgte is a LEGAL engine in the US?
I don't want to swap to engine and then get my car impounded and destroyed for the engine. I have heard of this happening locally and people having huge fines along with no more car.
