jtamulis is hosting a group buy. its in the "approved group buys" section. you can read more on it, but basically, you send your turbo in, they rebuild it, and its 600 bucks. thats a damn good price too. there's also a "ball bearing upgrade" option

So far unimpressed with this thread! 87turbo obviously isn't the kinda guy who seems like he knows everything (not trying to slam ya 87turbo), and right off the bat, he gets told to buy a turbo. And then, when a question is asked, we get no answer, just another question.

Joel W's info was good to have, BUT we ( people such as myself and 87turbo) could use a little instruction on how to check each part needed to check in order to find a boost leak. How do you check for a boost leak.???????????? While under your hood it's hard to get boost, therefor it won't be leaking while you check. I was reading this post hoping his answers would help me find my problems.

BTW.....I was impressed with MCD motorsports and their recommendation of themselves or Jtamulis. I have no experience with MCD, but I did have several dealings with Jtamulis back in my MKII days. He's one hell of a guy!

well ForcedTorque i'm unimpressed with your reply. you just can't come in here and say "turbo not working" and expect us to create miracles. he gave no kind of details as to why he thinks his turbo is bad. give us some kind of symptoms. smoking? lots of hesitation? does the car still pull hard? car feels sluggish? hearing any kind of screeching noises? loud hissing noises? give us something! and by god, pull the damn intake hose spin the compressor wheel at least! shaft play? how much? alot? a little? pull the intercooler hose. any oil drop out of it? stock turbo? how many miles? any mods? how much boost?

you can't just come in here without any specifics and expect us to give you a 100% correct diagnosis. besides, all we can do is help you eliminate the possibilites and help you get close to what the problem is. if you want to know exactly what is wrong with your car then take it to the stealership and let them tell you what it is.

EDIT: hell, just look at snotboy's "not boosting" thread down below. he too comes in here with no details expecting us to fix his car. we need details guys, details.

Yes to be fair, I guess I should have included the web site link so you can follow the directions in the post http://groundsky.co.nz/techinfo/TSRM/05_TC.pdf

If you look at #1 on my post, It says see page TC-8 for instructions on how to test pressure? No pressure?

Go on to #2 and check for a plugged air filter. Go to page TC-7 as it says in #2 A good rule is if you can see light through it when holding it to the sun, it's ok. No light means no air, so replace it.

On to #3. read this!! http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9164&highlight=boost+leak+test

There are other ways to check for leaks like pressurizing it on the car with an air tank by capping the ends of the IC system and blowing air in and listening for leaks. There is a how to in here somewhere. A common leak is the hose that attaches the 3000 pipe to the intake manifold...

#4, Someone (I forget whom, sorry) posted a quick and easy way to test for a restricted exhaust that I liked, Just pull the o2 sensor out of the 90 deg elbow and secure it somewhere. Now test drive it real quickly to see if it builds boost like step #1 said to test it.

#5 Exhaust leaks are loud and can usually be heard at idle or under loads.

#6 Excessive play in the shaft can cause the turbo shaft blades to rub on the housing preventing boost, Usually this is pretty loud when it does happened. See page TC-14.

Suprapowaz: Good point. More details are needed. :)
