i am kinda new to the supra. im a former ae and alltrac owner so im familiar with toyotas. Now to my problem my car is blowing black smoke in boost so im guessing something wrong with turbo. It is currently stock but is going to be my dd and project. Im wanting to upgrade the turbo or build this one up i have a buddy that knows how to rebuild the turbo but idk were to get parts or what to buy. If someone could give me some pointers on were to look and what to do. im not looking to spend a arm and a leg. wanting something that spools fairly quick and could give me good hp with other upgrades. thank

Black smoke under boost pressure doesn't mean your Turbo is bad. You most likely have a boost leak. Do you loose power or notice any cutouts while accelerating?

My turbo just went bad... Blue puff of smoke on decelleration, shaft play, etc... Black smoke is usually unburned fuel... A good tune up with nice spark plugs/wires maybe???

I made 300rwhp and 363rwtq on a stock CT-26. And I kept blowing them up. I blew up a ct 26 in less then 15 minutes after putting it on. For 350rwhp you will need a upgrade. We carry several CT-26 upgrades as do most the other vendors on the forum.

also another noob question when upgrading turbo but staying at stock boost do you have to re tune? how much boost can i push from stock injectors without hurting anything? and if its a oil cooled only turbo what do i do with the water lines? stupid questions but trying to learn

If you go with a CT-26 upgrade it is a water cooled turbo. IF you go with a non-oem upgrade without water cooling you want to loop the lines- connect the top to the return below bypassing the turbo charger.

AS far as not needing a tune at the same boost pressure- You "can" get away without tuning but it is a good idea to. With the same pressure you are moving a higher volume of air then before- but the AFM in front can compensate for this to a degree. A good margin of safety is 550cc injectors and a lexus AFM from a LS 400. This with a basic SAFC will keep you boosting.

For turbo pricing, shoot me a PM.

update: the mechanic said there was shavings in the piping of my intercooler there was also oil in my intercooler is the reason he is saying my turbo bad? could it still be bad? also look to upgrade my ct26 or find a cheap turbo that realiable and could hold a steady hp. If anyone has a turbo or does upgrading thats not an arm and a leg send me a message or leave me a numbe rto contact you.

funny story
i use to own a 90 celica gts that i swapped in a jdm 2nd gen 3sgte
1st turbo i blew up due to the jdm ct26 having a ceramic turbine and they dont like boosting over 15 psi lol
so i got another turbo but this time it was a 60 trim ct26 usdm
had it on there for about 6 months
my friend removed my air filter without me knowing to put on his celica
well drove home and noticed i couldnt boost
i ended up sucking a rock up or something up in my turbo and ruining everything lol

back on track...normally oil in the intercooler piping would point to bad turbo
but you could have some blow by

metal shavings in the intercooler piping indicate a bad turbo lol

Expect to pay 5-600 for a upgrade.
