Just a question at what rpm does the turbo spool? is there an equation for that? like when the pressure is 1psi what's the rpm of the turbo?

for every turbo it will be completely different as just about every one will use different sized housings, and also different sized and shaped impeller wheels (ie. number of blades, diameter)

Not sure if I've ever seen an equation to calculate rpm of spoolup as there are so many variables to take into consideration, including the above variables and even things like intercooler flow rates, piping diameter, length, and flow ability, just so many things to think about.

Well I mean the RPM of the turbine itself not the rpm of the engine.

let's say on a stock CT26 and a stock car, what's the rpm of the turbine per psi? or what's the maximum rpm it would spool at?

I come from a land down under
Some Compressor maps list the shaft rpm as well but not many!

Small turbos can hit 250,000+ rpm larger T04 types can see 100,000+.

Not sure if this has changed with the DBB units in use these days.

Might sound a little stupid but if I found someway that the speed of air in the intake manifold was around 13,000 rpm will that make any boost or it's nothing?

it was either the chilton or haynes manual but in there it gives an explination of how a turbo works and it mentions that the turbo can spin at speeds of up to 120,000rpm.

I'm assuming this is at stock boost levels like 7 psi, so imagine 15ish!

The reason i'm askin this is that my friend owns a nice clean N\A supra I wanted to mod this supra so I bought a nice 220V blower which says to run at 13000RPM and removed it's motor and replaced it with a strong BMW fan 12V motor and installed it on his supra as an Electric Supercharger made some custom setup for that motor I put a 24V Battery so that fan would run even faster and did the wiring so when he wants to "boost" he simply presses a button which I installed for him in his center consle and I told him that he should charge the 24V battery (which I installed in the trunk) 2 times every week. The amazing thing it that I installed a boost gauge and the car boosted up to 5 PSI!!! today but I donno I feel like the engine is gonna blow. I don't see anything wrong till now. But I just have a feeling but at least I Electricly turbocharged an N\A supra for less than 200$.

And on the other hand his car now beats my Turbo supra cause I have a weak CT-26 which runs around 3 PSI..

Has anyone else, messed with some sort of electric boost? I found a bunch of electric superchargers, on ebay and was wonder what you people think. I don't have the option of turbo charging or swapping engines, so please don't tell me to do so.

95% of the electric superchargers sold on ebay are bunk. They're leaf-blower type motors that may boost at low RPM (idle), but at high RPM, they act as a giant intake obstruction -- they can't begin to push the amount of air needed to keep an engine fed and happy, much less boosted, at high RPM. They'll just spin and act as an obstruction, as the engine vacuum sucks air right past them.

anyway, cheers!

I looked those things up. They're pretty weak. Maybe he should just buy an industrial, leaf blower. Some of them claim to move air, at 150mph. :biglaugh:
