I am new to the site here and I just want say hey whats going on. I love my new supra. Its a 88 turbo with a JDM 7MGTE that I have spent the last 4 months working on and probably wont be done for atleast another 2. So far I have done a complete body job, shaved side moldings, body kit, newpaint, graphite grey pearly metallic and now i am working on the motor. So far a complete head job, planed head, new valves, new seals and guides and port, polish and gasket matched. I also have T4 manifold, external 50mm wastegate, LIPP lex afm, 680 injectors, AFPR, garrett T3/T4 turbo, Spearco style intercooler, LIPP intercooler pipes,MSD wires, Fidanza Flywheel, ACT 6 puck race clutch, HKS intake, HKS super dragger exhaust, 3inch cutom down pipe with watsegate rerouted, Unorthodox pulleys, and cam gears, Thanks Brian at UR,HKS SSQV, Cometic 1.3mm headgasket and an Apexi AFC2. Oh yeah and ARP head studs, rod bolts and Clevitte 77 rod bearings. Now my question is the turbo has a 1 AR on the exhaust side and a 60 AR on the cold sideand I am planning on running between 16 and 20 pounds of boost.. Do you think I will have a lot of turbo lag?Any help would be great as I have'nt seen any info on a turbo of this size when i was searching.

Thanks
Bobby

I wish I knew Bigboosted. I just wanted to post in and tell you that it sounds like you'll have a rocket on your hands, and I wouldnt care if it lagged or not. It's only fair that you give them a headstart and then play catch up. I wish you would post some pictures of your car. I'd love to see the graphite grey pearly metallic......Now let me go back and check my spelling in case IJ is lurking around.....j.k. IJ.....lol

Nice project man. Don't most people pant the car after they put the motor in so they don't mess up the pant?? You deffenetly need to post pics!!!!

well she isnt completely done yet. I just got it back from the body shop a few days ago and it took them about 2 months to do all the work which is why i had them do that first. As far as pics go I will post pics when the car is completely done.

When the car is completely done.... that might never happen. I don't know if i have seen anyone "done" with their mkiii. Post some pics, that way when you get it completed we have more appreciation for the work that went into it, lol.

Anyway, from what I know about turbo's (not much) that sounds like a pretty big AR but a T3/T4 turbo is somewhat small so it might not be that bad.

1.0 a/R might be a little laggy....

Depending on what you consider laggy and how large the turbine wheel is.

Typically, you're going to want a .68-.86 rear a/r housing for that turbo to be responsive.

thanks for all the comments guys, iam working everynight for the next 2 months to try and get everything finshed by April. A lot fo work but it will al be worth it in the end. Anyone else have any other input on the turbo or how i can raise the stock rev limiter to accomodate for the bit of lag?

Its, VERY NICE man. looks like great work has been done on the car. Again, beautiful car man.

But back to the turbo. It all kinda depends on your power goals. You said your planning to run 16-20 psi. you can achieve this with a small turbo and make like 350 hp or a large one and put down like 500. Are you gonna be drag racing, going to car shows, autocross, ect.

20k! Fruck! Looks sweet though. I'm sure this is obvious to most, but what kind of front bumper is that and how much was it?

Thanks

The power goals are between 400-500 hp and I will be doing a bit of drag racing, and car shows and maybe some autox when its done. The front bumber is erebuni and i am not sure how much it is seperate cuz i bought it as a kit. The whole kit costs like 950 US. I am just trying to find out if the turbo I have will be boostin to late in the rpm range or not. If it is then i want to find a way to raise the rev limit so take advantage of the later spool but if its too late then i will have to get a slightly smaller AR turbo. Thanks for all the compliments guys.

The thing about garrets is that you can simply change to a smaller AR. Unfortunately I dont know which electronic devices can change the rev limitor. If you want very specific answers about the turbo I would suggest maybe calling horsepower freaks about getting a different AR, sending a PM to IJ or MDCmotorsports.

i think IJ ran an .83 a/r on his old setup. said it worked real well. but he told me that he wouldnt go any bigger unless you had a bunch of motor work for higher rpms. like those huge ones off ebay that are 1.06, thats way big, tons of lag time.

I knew you could change the AR but the overall AR is only an 80. And it is using a T3 flange so I dont know if that makes any difference or not. I hope I can still use this turbo cuz I really cant afford to buy another one.
