hey guys, i dunno if anyone else has a found a site that you can map out turbos or not. but i found this site and its pretty cool. you can put in your engine size, cylinders, fuel ratio and tons of other stuff. and then it shows how diff turbos will work for you. i am fairly new to mapping so i am not sure how acurate the site is. but check it out and let me know....

do you feel its accurate in choosing a turbo to use for a specific application? or that there are just too many turbo variations out there that this works to a certain extent, but not totally?

It will get you in the ballpark.

But as you suspect there are so many variables involved it's not 100%.

Best to ask around stating a realistic goal for HP your driving style budget and experience.

The more info provided the easier it will be for the guys here to recommend something from experience.

As an example I was away from cars for sometime so when I did my first NA/T build I used my old school "experience" to choose a turbo not taking into account the leaps in technology..... DOH it made boost at 1400 rpm ;)
(far too small in AR and Comp size but past experience told me a 700hp turbo on a 3 litre would be a lag monster.... I was wrong)

well i am looking in the ball park of something around 18-21 psi. but just like you said, i dunno whats too big b/c i dont want a "lag monster". i am not striving for high hp numbers. its gonna be a street car, so i am more in it for the torque aspect that pulls strong. but yet still have the effinency to to push the air i need at higher rpms. i know thats asking alot, b/c you cant have best of both worlds. atleast not that i am aware of.....lol

Well actually you can :)!

From my own new experience a GT3540R with a .82 AR turbine would be just about perfect!

Mine even with a 1.06 AR housing is going positive at 2200 rpm and really comes on strong by 3000, I went for the big housing to let it breathe up high but I can't see an .82 being restrictive at the stock redline.
