turbo lines, and odd gasket

hello everyone. Im new to supra mania. i have an 89 supra turbo, which is my second supra. i bought it with a blown engine, so im currently in the process of swaping. however, there are a couple things i could use some help on. the stock turbo that came with the car does not have the oil lines the other turbo has. i think its for a turbo timer, im not sure. im still a newbie to all these things. i need to know where those lines go. also, i need a gasket for a plate that simply holds the hard fuel line on the side of the block.

im sure i could find this if i looked hard enough, but i needed to post something before they deleted my account

Pictures would help a lot. Doesn't look there there is a stock gasket for that part - it's on this page: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/EPC/291420/catalog.aspx?F=2211&P=2 which means you should likely just seal it with some gasket maker.

are you talking about 23809j?
i dont think ive ever trully seen a real gasket on that my self out of the several 7m's ive taken apart, but i do know the cressy motors did have like RTV type gasket on them.

Pretty sure that is what he is refering to. There is actually an OEM gasket for that, it's a bit strange I have to say. It is a thick piece of plastic with a sealer on both sides.

That thick piece isn't a gasket, it's an insulator. I've seen actual gaskets for it, but only in the aftermarket gasket kits, never found one from Toyota.

I actually have a new one from Toyota for the J-Tube, Dave. It's Phenolic with bonded fiber gaskets with the rubber seal strip running around it. Quite odd, if I do say so myself.

Interesting... I wonder if mine had been pulled off, or if they changed 'em since '89. The one I pulled off my engine was different.

It's just a mounting point for the J-tube, which is a restriction in the fuel return line that allows you enough fuel pressure to limp home if your FPR kicks off in the middle of a trip. I think it's insulated to prevent heat from the block possibly transferring into the fuel line. Seems like typical Toyota overkill to me, worrying about heat transfer on fuel that's headed back to the tank anyway. I'm not going to complain, though, I'm no automotive engineer.

To the OP, which oil lines do you speak of? No line on your turbo should have anything to do with a turbo timer:icon_eek:

I never did understand why they decided to make a whole metal pipe assembly etc for the restriction. Why not just make the holes in the banjo bolt smaller or something simple like that? Seems like they spent a bunch of money where they didn't need to, though there must be a reason... if only I could know why. Never understood why they left the hole in the block either for a mechanical fuel pump...or why they left the cam on the end of the oil pump driveshaft for the fuel pump. Considering the entire block has casting changes I dont see why they would leave a gaping hole in the side of the block only to have to cover it with a plate. Oh the unanswered questions...

it seems like from the worn in bends of the turbo lines going to it, that one goes to thermostat housing, one goes to the bottom piece of the water outlet, and one goes to side of block. does that seem right?
