Turbo Help

Hi I have a stock 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo 5spd. There is something wrong with turbo i think because when i start the car and start driving it, the turbo gauge is at -4. Then when I start pushing the car, the turbo gauge goes up to 0 when I'm around 5000rpm but the turbo gauge don't go any higher. Also, when I'm pushing the Supra, I don't hear the turbo whistling or anything from the turbo. Does that mean that it is broken??

But check all your pipes, vaccum lines and the intercooler for cracks. that might be the problem.

-4 at idle is notmal. Obviously your not going to be building 10psi at idle.

Definality should not be making 0psi at 5k and i wouldnt push the car that hard until the problem i fixed.

They usually dont sieze. Most likely the bearings go out and then the seals go and the wheels grind into the housing causing a loud whine.

They usually dont, youre right, but I had a CT seize on me a few years back. I pulled off the accordian and the compressor wheel would not spin for anything. It may be rare but not a bad idea to inspect the wheel since its not hard to do.
