Turbo Going Bad? Blue smoke..

Alright so here are my symptoms..

If i let the car sit for about 48 hours, when I start it up it, it will puff a cloud of blue smoke then idle good. It will idle without blowing any blue smoke as long as you want it to, but as soon as you rev it up, it blows blue smoke. If you drive it for about 5 minutes, it will get rid of all the oil its burning and wont blow any blue smoke at all.

Is this my turbo? Also, what should I check out to determine what the problem is?

Im not sure but it could also be your valve seals.

Could be the turbo's front piston ring seal or your pcv system.

Take the intercooler out and the lower IC hose. Does oil pour out?

If so, you need to check for a clogged air filter, turbo shaft play, and a propperly working PCV system.

Those are the exact symptoms that my car had when my valve stem seals were gone.

I will be checking tonight and give an update. If there is no oil in the IC.. that means its my valve seals? How big of a job is it replacing them?

I wouldn't go that far. Unless he's pulling the head off of the car, it will be a fair amount of work to remove all the valve retainers and then reinstall them properly unless you have all the right tools. (Stuffing rope or other things down your spark plug holes to stop the valves falling is kind of a pain in the ass if you ask me).

I say pull the head off if you're going to do it just to save hassles of shit being dropped/lost in the engine bay, etc.

Oh, and sometimes the valves need to be re shimmed after seals are changed. Not always, but sometimes.

blue at startup... i've never seen white at startup!

White at startup makes me think of my BHG..

Anyways, I didnt have to much time today but i did get around to taking off just the lower IC pipe, the one running to the turbo.. It was nice and dry inside. Do I HAVE to take the IC out to verify if its the turbo or not?

I'd take the IC out anyways, its easy enough. If the IC has never been out you should clean it anyways. Mine had about 4 ounces of oil in it when I took it out. Its not easy getting all the oil out of it though.

Mine was cleaned before it went in (GE to GTE Swap).
